PLEASE READ! Ok people, the motel is run down because its the kind of place that condones prostitution but that night is different because the girl is not a prostitute but a good little catholic virgin who is forced to screw her boss (the attorney) because she needs the job at his firm. She needs the job because she desperately needs the money from the job, not prostitution. The lawyers wife has no idea or is blinded by his money that her husband is forcing his employees to have sex with him. He just tells her its "strictly business". After the deed is done the lawyer leaves and she is cleaning herself up when police raid the room, breaking down the door("there was a terrible crash"). She drops her things in shock but she holds a different "purse"(a baby in her womb). "What a wonderful caricature of intimacy" talking about the the conditions of how this poor baby was concieved. Thank you people I rock!

I think this song just tells a story to show how messed up the world is today..

it starts by describing the atmosphere of the motels, and the way they choose to describe it gets the image in your head that this place is horrifying...then goes into saying that the tenants of the motel tonight are a lawyer and a "virgin" ...the lyrics show that the lawyer is having an affair with this girl at the motel, the wife knows about it but doesn't really care because she is just using him for his money anyways...
then to the next story...the same girl is sitting in the room after the lawyer left and a cop shows up because he is suspicious about her and she has sex with him so he won't get her into trouble.

oh what a wonderful caricature of intimacy.....

The Virgin who has rosery tucked in her lingerie may be a reference to virginity. The cheating attorney has sex with the virgin because the virgin in fact needs a job/money. Also the Mrs. knows of the attorneys dirty deeds yet stays with him because she in fact also needs the money. Also a proposition between the attorney and the virgin.. Sarcastic "simply business" refers to the sex for a job.

There are no more.... rain drops...white dresses... etc; that is refering to the loss of virginity and the gain of money. No white dresses... but also no more sleeping with the roaches. That's all I've got.

I think it's about a woman who is at one of the sleazy hotels in downtown Las Vegas. Apparently the woman is looking for a job with the lawyer's firm, and they have agreed to dicuss 'business' ("I'll hire you if you sleep with me") at an old 'historic' Las Vegas hotel. The lawyer also has a wife (the Mrs.), but even if she knew that he cheated, she wouldn't leave him because of the money her husband brings in, being a lawyer.

I think it's a song about peoples morals- about how people will sell out for money, although I could just be projecting here...what do you think? Am I right? I guess the person that wrote the song is the only one who can really confirm.

Purse of a different kind isn't money, that's why it says "of a different kind". But I don't think it's a baby, that wouldn't make much sense. Maybe it's sin or regret. Also, now that she's just soiled her soul, you could say, it's possible she simply sleeps with the officer to avoid being arrested. Figures, "what the hell?", and just does it. But hell I'm just here eating some prunes so what do I know? Probably more than you. Oh man. I'm sad now. /wrist

4 people in this song
the virgin (main character)
the lawyer (attorney)
the mrs (attorney's wife)
the policeman (the badge)

virgin very religious. Religion hinted in song title, rosary in lingerie, and practiced catholic....

virgin staying at sleazy hotel (incidentally, panic used to live on 4th freemont street)

virgin sleeps with lawyer to get a job and become a "virgin". Wife stays with lawyer for money.

Put on her makeup, policeman bashes down the door (between her and the badge) spills her bag...

I interpreted this bit different to everyone else :p

virgin shot down dead. "purse" of a different kind is a body bag. Virgin sleeps eternally besides the roaches beneath the ground.

It's these substandard motels on the (lalalalala) corner of 4th and Freemont Street.
1. Appealing only because they are just that un-appealing
Any practiced catholic would cross themselves upon entering.
The rooms have a hint of asbestos and maybe just a dash of formaldehyde,
And the habit of decomposing right before your very (lalalala) eyes.

This part is just setting the scene of a hotel. 4th and freemont is an intersection in downtown Las Vegas, a place where hookers hang out.

Chorus:
Along with the people inside
What a wonderful caricature of intimacy
Inside, what a wonderful caricature of intimacy

The first line means the "virgin" had sex int eh hotle. cariacature of intaimacy means a situtaion that's private.

2. Tonight tenants range from: a lawyer and a virgin
Accessorizing with a rosary tucked inside her lingerie
She's getting a job at the firm come Monday.
The Mrs. will stay with the cheating attorney
moonlighting aside, she really needs his money.
Oh, wonderful caricature of intimacy.

The "virgin" is sleeping with a cheating attorney who is her boss. The only reason she has this job is because she's sleeping with the attorney. (simple enough) Moonlighting aside means she is working 2 jobs. She has a rosary tucked inside her lingerine to look innocent.

3. And not to mention, the constable, and his proposition, for that "virgin"
Yes, the one the lawyer met with on "strictly business"
as he said to the Mrs. Well, only hours before,
after he had left, she was fixing her face in a compact.
There was a terrible crash (There was a terrible crash)
Between her and the badge
She spilled her purse and her bag, and held a "purse" of a different kind.

The "virgin" bumps into a badge(police officer). HE offers to have sex with him in exchange for not arresting her. The "purse" is like what she gets in return from sleeping with all these men.

4. There are no raindrops on roses and girls in white dresses.
It's sleeping with roaches and taking best guesses
At the shade of the sheets and before all the stains
And a few more of your least favorite things.

Sound of Music
Ok... So
1st line: How the Mrs. was innocent before she slept with these guys.
2nd line: Reffering to her sleeping with guys(roaches)
3rd line: Sheets reffer to her virginity, stians reffering to sex.

Okay, I'm guessing (just a guess) that it's about a hooker(that seems like an innocent catholic virgin) that is trying to get a job at this attorneys firm, and the only way to get it is to sleep with him. They go to a sleazy hotel (at 4th and Freemont, which is actually well known for its hookers) and the attorney tells his wife (the Mrs.) that it's scrictly business. After they do the deed, she's fixing herself up, ('She was fixing her face in a compact')when a constable (officer, polic, cop etc) comes in. ('There was a terrible crash')As for the purse bit, maybe its a black book. Its seems to fit, 'Along with the people inside'. He could arrest her, but says that if she sleeps with him, he won't.

As for the Mrs, I think she knows her husband (the cheating attorney) is cheating on her, but she's going to stay with him for the money. Maybe 'moonlighting aside' is the cheating. And the 'caricature of intimacy' is the way some people view love and marriage or something along those lines.

I'm not sure about the raindrops on roses thing. And this is just my opinion on what this songs about.

Look at the title of the song: "build god, then we'll talk". Ryan, with his ingenious titles, has in a way shown that he has a hard time believing in something that can't be seen. He further explains that in the story, wherein he has shown the hypocrisy that surrounds humans. The "virgin" isn't a virgin if she's prostituting, therefore she's hypocritical. "this is my lifestyle." vs. "I need the money." she wears a rosary because she's catholic, not because that's what she believes and in a sense is hypocritical of her own beliefs. "I believe this." vs. "this is the action I take." the lyrics don't have to picked apart, word for word, to make an interpretation. Sometimes all you have to do is look at the title.

A girl (the virgin) to me seems religious at the start. With the rosary tucked inside her lingerie and the catholic would cross themselves upon entering the sleazy hotel. It sounds filthy because of the disease and decomposing right before your very eyes. It says the lawyer and the virgin stay there for sex so that she can get the job at the firm. It sounds as if the wife (mrs.) of the attorney knows he's cheating but still decides to stay with him for his money. Next the virgin obviously stayed there and fixed herself up in the mirror or compact as it says. The police man "crashes" in the door and making her spill her bag. This is where it seems she isn't as innocent as she seems. The "purse" could be full of drugs. The police man (as it says in the booklet) arrests her on possession. It also say..."think of what you wouldn't want to happen. They ended up...Well, making love isn't exactly what I'm looking for(meaning they arnt in love so they can't be making love they are simply having sex) what a wonderful caricture of intimacy. A caricture is a false way of putting something and it says they arnt exactly being intimate. The title is saying that god is what you need not sex and drugs.

People are not what they seem. We categorise ourselves based on religion or our career, anything but who we are. In this world our values are sold for a chance; for a promotion; for a chance to move forward - so often our morals - the picture of who we are is jeopardised in order to get what we want. In that case - how true are these supposed values to start with. The title says it all - show me god - make him "real" and then we can talk about what everyone hides behind. Just because you are catholic or religious doesn't mean you are a good person....
The virgin is selling her virginity for a job working for the lawyer - her religion therefore becomes an accessory to be worn rather than a belief to live by.
The lawyer is using his power to get what he wants.
The lawyers wife (the mrs) only stays with the lawyer for his money - again putting values aside for security and appearances.
The virgin fixes her face in her compact - putting her mask back on and trying to get everything back to normal.
The "badge" constable crashes in - thinking he is busting a prostitute and gets her to empty her bag - hoping to find the payment - but instead he finds drugs (another lost virute or a way to help her deal with the deed she just had to go through) and threatens to arrest her for possession unless she sleeps with him.
The play on the sound of music words - is dispelling the ideals that losing your virginity (or looking at life in general in the real world) is not about all this sugar and spice - "there are no raindrops on roses...." in real life it is about sleeping with roaches (a metaphor for the men she has just been with and the dirty surroundings we find ourselves in)
a caricature is a funny or warped view of reality - everything mentioned in the song is showing what a skewiff view of love, commitment and sex the world really has.
We use and abuse power, our sex, our affection and our titles to get what we want.

Ok people, I don't think you're getting it....The "Mrs" and the "virgin" are two different people! The virgin is sleeping with the cheating attorney to get a job because she needs money. She has the rosary because she knows its wrong and wants forgiveness for sleeping with the lawyer. The layer is married to the "mrs" who knows he cheating on her but doesn't care because she needs his money. When the lawyer gets home he explains that he was gone on strictly buisness. Then the song says "the "virgin" yes the one....." the virgin is in quotations on the lyrics because she's no longer a virgin. Then it says "not to mention the constable and his proposition for the virgin yes the one the lawyer met with..." notice it says "the constable and his proposition" so I think the virgin was planing on having an affair with the cop too but on her way to meet him she got in a car crash because she was putting on make-up. When she crashed she dropped her purse and held a purse of a different kind meaning she had a wake up call and relized she was turning into a prostitute...Along with the people inside...Meaning after her affair at the sleezy motel she has become like the other people that stay in the motel. "what a wonderful caricature of intimacy" a caricature is an exxagoration or something alongthose lines so the story is about intimacy being mocked" see what I'm sayin?

I looked at the lyrics to build god, then we'll talk and the first line said this:

"it's these substandard motels on the (lalalalala) corner of 4th and fremont street."

Panic! At the Disco is from Las Vegas. And 4th and Fremont street are real streets here in Las Vegas. I was shocked when I read the lyrics. I was like aren't those real streets here in Vegas. And they talk about motels and there's a motel on the corner of those two streets. I have seen the motel several times because every time we go to the movies we pass by there and they are ghetto and ugly. And the song says that too. But the motel is a real place in Las Vegas.

Also I think when they say lalalalala I think its short for Las Vegas.

I was only singing the first line of the song and my bro heard me and he was like "why did you say 4th and fremont street, that place is ghetto?" and he never heard this song before. And he never heard me sing the next line of the song. And the next line of the song says

"appealing only because they are just that un-appealing"

and I was like wow my bro knew that place was ghetto before he even knew the secong line of the song

I'm assuming these are not the best motels in Vegas and that's why they refer to them as below standard. They probably just see these places for what they are.

The motels are gross and lots of corruption occurs here...
The girls needs money and sheis a virgin...She needs this job..So she sleeps with her boss...

She's cleaning up after the sex and the room is raided. She sleeps with the constable so she doen't get arrested. The purse of a different kind is a sin or dirty secret otherwise they woudln't say..."an held a purse of a different kind...Along with the people inside"..The other peopel inside are sinful too ...The motel is substandard. So everyone in it has sins and "purses" of a different kind...The purse isn't a friggen baby...

This song is about a motel that's on the corner of 4th and fremont street(I think its called motels 4 kings) and it being so gross that people are decomposing before your eyes, and a virgin girl went to get a job there to sleep with him because she really needed the money. When the song says "there was a terrible crash" is when the police came in her room. Because there are drugs in her purse to releave her pain.

You may not think so but that's my interpretation of the song. -romy.

This is the ending to the girl cheating on her husband now (after I write sins not trageties) it's all a story line about a cheating wife with the singer, who is a "better fuck...Lalala"

The part where it says" there are no raindrops on roses or girls in white dresses and sleeping with the roaches and taking best guesses at the shade of the sheets before all the stains and a few more of your least favorite things" is taken from the sound of music in the scene where the kids are afraid of the thunder and she begins singing about her favorite things to make them feel better.

It's about a girl who really needs some money, and so a lawyer says he'll give her a job if he sleeps with her, and the wife is going to stay with him anyway.

This song is about how sex becomes less something shared by people who care for each other and more something cheap and dispensible-- hence the "what a wonderful caricature of intimacy."

there are two stories here:

1. The virgin and the lawyer. The lawyer agrees to hire the virgin if she sleeps with him, which occurs in the motel after the lawyer tells his wife (the mrs.) that he's meeting with her on "strictly business."

2. The mrs. And the policeman. The mrs. Knows her husband, the lawyer, is cheating on her, but she's involved in illegal activities that require the money he makes as an attourney. The policeman physically runs into her, making her drop her purse, and evidence of said illegal activity falls out of it. However, the policeman agrees not to arrest her if she sleeps with him.

The previous interpretation I suppose is possible, but I don't think anything occurs between the wife and the police because the first line of that verse mentions the constable (the police officer) and his proposition for the "virgin". I think the only role the wife plays is that she stays with the attorney even though she knows he's cheating because she needs his money. However, as suggested in earlier entries, I do not believe the "virgin" willingly gave herself to the officer. I see the "crash" and the reason she "spilled her purse and bag" as a rape. I think it means that the pollice officer forced her to have sex with him. Though I have no suugestions for the "purse of a different kind" thing. Unless its just now she lives with the scars of being raped or something. For me, this interpretation explains the feelings of sadness I get when I listen to the last verse about "no more raindrops on roses and girls in white dresses". I think she was a virgin and just gave it away for a job and then got raped and now is just gonna be messed up in the head and probably slutty.

Ok...So this song is about a woman...And she's staying at those nasty, wrong-side-o-town, cock-roach infested motels....And she is down on her luck...And is being a hooker to get money...She finds a client who is a married attorney...And the,"getting a job at the firm come monday..."part is she sleeps w/ the lawyer in return for a job at his law firm...But after he leaves....The cops bust her..."between her and the badge, she spilled her purse...." so that's pretty much it...

The "virgin" referance is b/c she's a hooker so she has slept w/ lots of people...But she's never slept w/ the lawyer before that...

Also the "...Moonlighting aside she really needs his money/a wonderful caricature of intimacy..." this goes w/ the "getting a job @ the firm" part...And is referring to the fact that the money she gets from him, for sex, isn't enough to live off of...So she's being employed by him....Hence "needs his money"
