I think (and im probly wrong) that its all about her childhood. In the video you notice that Haley looks like the grownup version of the kid. Blond hair, white dress excetra. She probly had a horrible childhood. Mabe from abuse or something like that. Anyway, in the video the little kid's walking through what appears to be her dream world. Everythings perfect and troublefree. That's probly how she ascaped the abuse or whatever. The part when the video get all dark and scary is when the little girl relizes how crap her life is and there's nothing she can do about it. So she runs away from it. The little kid then falls into the 'grave' and The guy fills it with the dirt and Haley walks away. That could be her walking away from her old life and covering her childhood memeries because they were so horrible. Hope this helps.

Hayley has said in interviews that the new album, Brand New Eyes, is like the diary of her life. What I think that this great song is about is that one's dreams turn out to be very nightmarish at times. Her fairytale (Becoming a famous rock band) has turned out to have some issues. She loves it, but it drives her crazy at times... and etc.

It's hard for me to explain, but I think that it's about how people just make up their own fantasies because they can't stand being in the real world because it's like tragic or whatever. I don't know; you can disagree with me if you want, but I just think that' what Hayley is trying to say. I can't really interpret the chorus, but I guess like people keep digging deeper and deeper to get away from the real world and like their digging their own grave or something. Also, I guess in the end or second verse, this girl that Hayley is talk about, her fantasy or dreams are crushed. And when it says, "If it's not real you can't hold it in your hands. You can't feel it in your heart, and that's where I want to be." She wants to be in a place where it's all a fantasy and it isn't real because sometime she just can't handle life and she wants to be free, "with her head in the clouds." I'm sorry if you guys are confused. I tried my best. ;]

Verse 1 ::
She lives in a fairy tale
Somewhere too far for us to find
Forgotten the taste and smell
Of the world that she's left behind
[Obviously, she's living in her own world where nothing is wrong. She's far from the world and she's so caught up on it that she really has forgotten about the real world.]
It's all about the exposure the lens I told her
The angels were all wrong now
She's ripping wings off of butterflies
[The first line I think is about how her life isn't the way the world she sees it. She looks at her life in a different through her own eyes, or 'lens.' I don't know about the second line, because I can't interpret it, but I think I understand the last line. The butterflies represent life, nature. In order for butterflies to go around freely, they need their wings, but then she's destroying them by ripping off their wings. She's destroying her own life.]
Keep your feet on the ground
When your head's in the clouds
[Don't wander too far off from the world. That's all I got.]
Chorus ::
Well go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle
Well go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle
Ba da ba da ba
[I think this talks about how she's digging her own grave. She's destroyer her body, her 'castle,' by destroying her life. She's probably doing drugs or cutting herself, but I doubt that she's cutting herself. Haha.]
Verse 2 ::
So one day he found her crying
Coiled up on the dirty ground
Her prince finally came to save her
And the rest you can figure out
[So the person that she loves 'noticed' her and she saved her from what she was going through. He made her happy and you know, they end up 'loving' each other, and you can figure out the rest.]
But it was a trick
And the clock struck 12
[Well, it is what it is. It was a trick. He was only using her for his own purposes. 'And the clock struck 12' was, I'm guessing, from Cinderella, when she had to leave and her dreams of being with the prince, her dance with him, her happiness, was over. Although, she didn't have a happily ever after story.]
Well make sure to build your house brick by boring brick
or the wolves gonna blow it down
[She should get stronger and be happier, or else the big bad world would just bring her down again.]
Bridge ::
Well you built up a world of magic
Because your real life is tragic
Yeah you built up a world of magic
[She made a world of her own with magic and fantasies and nothing can go wrong. She probably went through a lot because that's what people who have went through a lot do, and she probably doesn't want to go go through any of it anymore.]
If it's not real
You can't hold it in your hands
You can't feel it with your heart
And I won't believe it
But if it's true
You can see it with your eyes
Oh even in the dark
And that's where I want to be, yeah
[Hayley's comparing what's real & what's not and she won't believe anything that she can't see or touch. She's probably talking about something like faith or ... magic. She wants to be in some place where she knows that everything's real. She doesn't want to be like that other girl who's living in a fantasy.]

Basically about how as a child she made up her own life like fairytale (this is shown especially in the video) in order to escape, and now she is older she wants to forget it and get rid of it by 'burying' her fantasy castle because rather than bringing her happiness anymore it reminds her of why she made it in the first place and scares her. This could also be interpreted as her doing the same thing for someone who she knows/her friends etc. - helping them to bury their past.

She lives in a fairy tale
Somewhere too far for us to find
Forgotten the taste and smell
Of the world that she's left behind
(This girl has created a fantasy world for herself to escape the real one)
It's all about the exposure the lens I told her
(life is all about your outlook. The narrator is trying to tell the girl that if she looks at things more optimisically, they won't be that bad.)
The angels were all wrong now
She's ripping wings off of butterflies
(what she's been told was good really wasn't; she's destroying innocence)
keep your feet on the ground
when your head's in the clouds
(When you dream, don't get carried away.)
CHORUS:
Well go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle
Well go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle; bury the castle
Ba da ba ba da ba ba pow
(She is saying that the girl should bury her fantasies, because they're hurting her more than helping her.)
So one day he found her crying
Coiled up on the dirty ground
Her prince finally came to save her
And the rest you can figure out
But it was a trick
And the clock struck 12
(She has made up a boy to come save her, and she got hurt when she got too carried away and had to force herself to realize he was never really there. [not too sure about this one..but it's a possibility. Another one is that she left her fanatasy world for a boy and got hurt because she was used to everything going how she imagined, and reality was too much for her to handle. You pick which one you like better.])
Well make sure to build your house brick by boring brick
or the wolves gonna blow it down
(This line is key. It sums up the central message: If you live your life by logic and reality, you're not as likely to get hurt. It will be boring but sturdy.)
keep your feet on the ground
when your head's in the clouds
Well go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle
Well you built up a world of magic
Because your real life is tragic
Yeah you built up a world of magic
(speaks for itself)
If it's not real
You can't hold it in your hand
You can't feel it with your heart
And I won't believe it
But if it's true
You can see it with your eyes
Oh even in the dark
And that's where I want to be, yeah
(Here she debates what the meaning of "real" is. Is it what you can hold in your hands, or feel in your heart? And in the end she decides that where she wants to be is with that which is real in your mind- the kind you can see in the dark because its in your heart, not in your eyes.)
Go get your shovel
We'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle
Ba da ba da ba...

I think this song is about Hayley burying her childhood, walking away from it because her life is better now. I think she had invented a world when she was a child where her life was wonderful, and then she realized that her real life is horrible, and her fantasy world isn't real. This song connects to me because I have gone through very similar situations.

might be wrong, feel free to correct me, but i think;
(before she goes in its raining butterfly wings)when she goes first into that place she takes hers off,(showing shes left that the real world) shes escaping her problems, acting innocent and childish, the girl now lives in a “fairy tale” "too far to find" he little world is all her imagination, and then the castle is like her sub consciousness and the mirrors reflect her mental state, then when stuff comes out the mirror shes freaked out and runs away because its not part of her "fairy tale world"and by "escaping" the real world,"with her head in the clouds" blocking out all her problems shes digging her own grave.
sorry i miss english :(

She lives in a fairy tale
Somewhere too far for us to find
Forgotten the taste and smell
Of the world that she's left behind
(The girl in the song is living in a fantasy world she has made up)
It's all about the exposure the lens I told her
The angles were all wrong now
She's ripping wings off of butterflies
(She sees this 'fairytale' world as perfect but behind it all it's a dark place)
keep your feet on the ground
when your head's in the clouds
(Basically saying you need to remain in touch with reality. You can dream but you need to be realistic)
Well go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle
Well go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle; bury the castle
(I think this is maybe saying you sometimes need help to get back to reality and stop living in the fantasy world you've built up)
Ba da ba ba da ba ba ha
So one day he found her crying
Coiled up on the dirty ground
Her prince finally came to save her
And the rest you can figure out
(links back to the fairytale with the classic happily ever after ending)
But it was a trick
And the clock struck 12
(But everything isn't what it seems and if you live in your own fantasy world you can't expect a happy ending)
Well make sure to build your house brick by boring brick
or the wolves gonna blow it down
(saying make sure you live in reality and don't build your entire life on dreams and fantasys)
keep your feet on the ground
when your head's in the clouds
(Keep in touch with reality and don't get carried away by your dreams)
Well go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle
(you can get help getting back to reality)
Well you built up a world of magic
Because your real life is tragic
Yeah you built up a world of magic
(The girl felt she had to build up this world because her own life was tragic and she needed a way to escape and be who she wanted to be)
If it's not real
You can't hold it in your hand
You can't feel it with your heart
And I won't believe it
But if it's true
You can see it with your eyes
Or even in the dark
And that's where I want to be, yeah
(The fantasys that have been built are pointless because they're not real. Real life is whats important because you know that it's real even if you can't see things for what they are.)
Go get your shovel
We'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle
(they want to leave the unrealistic dreams behind and live in reality)

She lives in a fairytale
Somewhere too far for us to find
Forgotten the taste and smell
Of a worldl that she's left behind
(This is about being so wrapped up in your imagination you struggle to get back to reality)
It's all about the exposure
The lens I told her
The angles are all wrong now she's ripping wings off of butterflies
(Photographic language is used to represent her outlook, but she won't take Hayley's advice, 'the lens I told her' so she rips wings off butterflies in teh sense that she doesn't tell anyone of her dreams-butterflies-pulling the wings off so she doesn't tell anyone anymore and they can't 'fly' to anyone else.
Keep your feet on the ground
When your head's in the clouds
(Don't drift too far from reality, OR the person's mental state-they are physically there but their mind is elsewhere)
Go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle
Bury the castle
(Hayley is still trying to help, offering a figurative shovel to help them bury their fantasies)
Ba da ba ba da ba ba da(Means nothing but sounds so awesome!)
So one day he found her crying
Coiled up on the dirty ground
Her prince finally came to save her
And the rest you can figure out
But it was a trick and the clock struck 12
(She thinks she's found her prince but he wasn't all he seemed to be)
Well make sure to build your home brick by boring brick
Or the wolf's gonna blow it down
(Living life in reality might seem to take a long time like building a house and be quite boring but it will stop you from being naive and being caught unawares by wolflike people.)
You built up a world of magic because your real life is tragic, yeah you built up a world of magic (Need I say anthing?)
If it's not real you can't hold it in your hand you cna't feel it with your heart and I won't believe it but if it's true you can see it with your eyes, oh even in the dark and that's where I want to be
(She is saying it is obvious when things aren't real because she can't believe it but when it's real you're sure it's there even in the dark.)
When the dudes start singing 'ba da ba ba da ba ba da..' at the end it sounds well fit! This song is immense!

I think this song could be about a boy.. just a theory
She lives in a fairy tale
Somewhere too far for us to find
Forgotten the taste and smell
Of the world that she's left behind
(she has met this new boy and is so caught up in him she's forgotten everything else)
It's all about the exposure the lens I told her
The angles were all wrong now
She's ripping wings off of butterflies
(she doesn't want to listen to anyone who says he's wrong for her even though its the truth)
keep your feet on the ground
when your head's in the clouds
(she needs to get a grip on reality even though her thoughts are only around him)
Well go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle
Well go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle; bury the castle
Ba da ba ba da ba ba ha
(she needs to get rid of this fantasy land she's living in because she's about to be heartbroken)
So one day he found her crying
Coiled up on the dirty ground
Her prince finally came to save her
And the rest you can figure out
But it was a trick
And the clock struck 12
(she met this new guy while she was upset with another boy so she thinks he's just what she needs to get her back on her feet, but really, he was just a player, and he doesn't really care about her)
Well make sure to build your house brick by boring brick
or the wolves gonna blow it down
(she needs to make sure her guard is up and she needs to be strong because this boy is just gonna hurt her)
keep your feet on the ground
when your head's in the clouds
(she may think he's perfect but she needs to know she's not the only one he treats like royalty)
Well go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle
(she needs to get rid of this fantasy boy because he's not worth it)
Well you built up a world of magic
Because your real life is tragic
Yeah you built up a world of magic
(she fell for this guy so much only because she was so hurt about the guy before him)
If it's not real
You can't hold it in your hand
You can't feel it with your heart
And I won't believe it
(he wasn't the one, that's why it shouldn't last)
But if it's true
You can see it with your eyes
Or even in the dark
And that's where I want to be, yeah
(when you do find the one, you'll know, no matter what)
Go get your shovel
We'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle
(move on)

I think that this is a song about growing up. She lives in a fantasy world as a child because reality is just to hard to face sometimes but when you can't avoid reality anymore the fantasty world begins to die and go bad. In order to grow up, the little girl inside of her has to die and she has to 'bury her castle' in a sense. Only when she can do this can she grow up and face reality.

I think this song is about a girl who is stuck in a fairytale world, and at first she loves it and wouldnt want to be anywhere else, but soon she starts to go crazy and 'ripping the wings off of butterflies'
And for, "keep your feet on the ground while your heads in the clouds" it means try to stay sane, basically.
And the chorus "Well go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle
Go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle" means lets bury the castle, as in trying to get rid of all the fairytale world, and to go home.
The second verse,
So one day, he found her crying
Coiled up on the dirty ground
Her prince finally came to save her
And the rest you can figure out
But it was a trick
And the clock struck twelve, well make sure
To build your house brick by boring brick
Or the wolf's gonna blow it down
is just fairytale references. "And the clock struck twelve" is Cinderella, we'll "build your house brick by boring brick" as in go back to the way things were. And "or the wolfs gonna blow it down" is the three little pigs, lets make the house out of bricks, lets be smart.
The bridge is, "Well you built up a world of magic
Because your real life is tragic
Yeah you built up a world of magic... "
well this girl, who is in this fairytale land, has created it to get away from real life. because her "real life is tragic"
tghe last part of the bridge, If it's not real
You can't hold it in your hand
You can't feel it with your heart
And I won't believe it
But if it's true
You can see it with your eyes
Oh, even in the dark
And that's where I want to be, yeah!
i think it means if your heart doesn't believe it, then you won't believe it yourself, basically the old "follow your heart" lesson.
And...thats my interpretation.

I think this song is about loss of innocence. dig a deep hole and burry a castle, is to take your childhood fantasies away.
And if you watch the video and listen to the lyrics you might be able to derive that it's about what a man can do to steal innocence away from a young girl
"So one day he found her crying
Coiled up on the dirty ground
Her prince finally came to save her
And the rest you can figure out"
... But i do also agree that it could just be about having to face reality.

I think the meaning is about something about her past life like she wants to say in that song that her real life was so tragic that she wants to bury it all away

Sorri if i'm wrong but i think this song is about a little girl (obviously) Could be Haley....running away with her imaginaton from problems in her life. Maybe she is happier in her fantasy world then in the real world and that's fine sometimes fantasy is better than reality. (speaking from experience.)

My interpretation of this song is that Hayley, as a child, had a very overactive imagination. She used this imagination to escape from the real world and ended up going in way too deep. When she got a little older, she realized she didn't have to use her imagination anymore. However, her imagination wouldn't let her leave, making her mental state not too good. It is then, that older Hayley realizes she has to bury her childhood (represented by the little girl in the video) in order to live the life she deserves.

I think this song is about a girl who feels trapped every where she goes she faces rejection, it is like a brick falling on top of her. But this is the thing it has happened so many times to her it has become mundane. So she creates this world where tragedies don't happen, but where your fantasties come to life. All so she can escape the horror of her own life.

She lives in a fairy tale
Somewhere too far for us to find
Forgotten the taste and smell
Of the world that she's left behind
(This is showing and talking about people who have mind controlling disorder [Manarch like the butterly that will come later] escape their reality to a place they have created were no one can reach them and they are no longer aware of their reality only the 'fairy tale')
It's all about the exposure the lens I told her
(This is about how is she looks at life and doesn't run then things would be easier)
The angles were all wrong now
She's ripping wings off of butterflies
(This is talking about how things are not as they should be and back the the butterflies like earlier she is ruining her life by taking on the disorder and you ruin a butterly by taking their wings)
keep your feet on the ground
when your head's in the clouds
(Often when someone has this disorder they aren't actually floating their feet are on the groung but they feel as though they are weightless)
Well go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle
Well go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle; bury the castle
(This is saying how she needs to get rid of her fairy tales and just bury them, the fairy tales being the castle)
Ba da ba ba da ba ba da
So one day he found her crying
Coiled up on the dirty ground
(this is like the actually reality she is finaly realizing and it is to much for her so she starts crying)
Her prince finally came to save her
(When she goes back to her perfect little world and sees a prince who isn't actually a prince but a man that is going to abuse her)
And the rest you can figure out
But it was a trick
(She thought that it really was a prince by her imaginary world but it tricked her and the rest you can figure is talking about how we know its not really a prince but someone most likely going to beat her)
And the clock struck 12
(12 noon or midnight is a time that is very final and its showing how it happened but she didn't really realize it)
Well make sure to build your house brick by boring brick
or the wolves gonna blow it down
(This part of the songs shows how you should really just build a strong life and keep is simple and if you don't your going to be destroyed)
keep your feet on the ground
when your head's in the clouds
Well go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle
(Pre-explained)
Well you built up a world of magic
Because your real life is tragic
Yeah you built up a world of magic
(It's just how it sounds.. no more no less)
If it's not real
You can't hold it in your hand
You can't feel it with your heart
And I won't believe it
But if it's true
You can see it with your eyes
Or even in the dark
And that's where I want to be, yeah
(In this part is when she doesn't know whats real or whats fake anymore and she is to far in her fairy tale world to tell the differance between the two, and in the end it is pretty much said that her world is true because she can feel it in her heart and see it at anytime because its in her heart and she believes it)
