The name comes from when Eddie Vedder bought a corduroy jacket in an op shop for something like $2, then later saw it on sale in a well-known shop for over $100.

The song is about fame and how corrupt and inconsiderate the media is. Put fame instead of the word you in the lyrics everytime and see how it makes sense, because its talking about fame in general, not a specific person.

McCready and Vedder had a falling out and hated each other for a whileMcCready baught a corduroy jacket as a gift for Vedder and gave it to vedder. Vedder didn't want to accept it but they both apologized. Vedder wore the jacket saw how much McCready paid for it and saw that the price had gone up because he was wearing it.
