Pink Floyd: Arnold Layne Meaning
Song Released: 1967
Arnold Layne Lyrics
Collecting clothes
Moonshine washing line
They suit him fine
On the wall hung a tall mirror
Distorted view, see through baby blue
Oh, Arnold Layne
It's not the same, takes two to know
Two to know, two to...

I was the inspiration for the lyrics! Was a student at Cambridge in 1966, living in Rock Road where Roger's Mum was my landlady. One early summer Sunday morning, when all the guys were hanging out round the kitchen table, I went out to bring in my washing from the line... lots of T shirts, jeans etc, but also lots of gaps where my knickers and bras had been hung up! I was livid but the fellas found it highly amusing... nine months later, Arnold Layne was released. Never found out if anyone had been "done" for it.

The song is a true story of a guy who would steal womens panties off the clothes line. He lived in Sid Barrett's area. The guy was kind of demented and often in trouble with the law becouse of his hobbie.
