anyway he's just asking her to come back to him, if only for a while, to change her taste in men, change her style back so that she would want to be with him. when it says "it's been this way since Christmas day, dazzled, doused in gin", it makes me think either she ended it then, or it being a holiday and a lonely time for a lot of people, it just got him thinking about it (the dazzled bit makes me think it was a quick break, and the doused in gin obviously being drinking, probably to forget/cope). Though it wasn't a fleeting thought (just over Christmas) as he say he's "killing time on valentine's, waiting for the day to end". I would say that he only thinks about her on the holidays, but he says "it's been this way SINCE Christmas day". Of course it could be a guy. I've just used "she" as I'm straight an it's my interpretation. but Brian being Bi, you never know.
