The author of this song wrote it about a parent, or maybe grandparent or another important figure in this person's life who died. But I think he's trying to tell them in heaven that they finally made it to the radio, and how much he wishes that they were there to see him now, living his dream. When he says "''cause they're playing my song on the radio and I'm singing it for you" he's grieving over their death but at the same time thanking them for everything they did for him.

Well, I heard from my friend that the song is about his sister or brother who died ("playing games at grandma's house").

This song hits me hard because I had a friend who died when she was 10 and my great grandma died 1 year ago from Alzheimer's. This song also talks about not getting closure and that what happened in both of my cases. My great grandma was in the hospital a while before we knew and my friend died due to brain damage and this song reminds me of them both.
