I Want To Break Free Lyrics

I want to break free
I want to break free
I want to break free from your lies
You're so self-satisfied I don't need you
I got to to break free
God knows, God knows I want to break free

I've fallen in love
I've fallen in love for the...

Please, first of all, it is not about saying anything about sexual preferences. It is just saying that he wants to get away from a person who is telling him lies, using him as a slave and such.

I believe that there are at least three possible interpretation for the song.

The first one is the historical and conventional.the song is about a hard relationship. Written by Deacon, it can mean that someone is not confortable in any relationship or marriage and he/she wants to break up but it is not easy(probably because the other spouse is an autoritarian and bad person but he/she still in love...)

The other possible explanation is the gay pride one. All members of the band suffers from homophobia and knew and feel the story of freedy. So he(Deacon) could write a song about sexual orientation freedom right.

Finally, the less plausible one, the femminist movement purpose. It is supported for the videocip and the history of women itself and women have reasons to beg for freedom and equallity.

This song is about wanting to leave a bad place or relationship in your life and leave it all behind. THIS SONG IS NOT ABOUT HOMOSEXUALITY!!! This song was by John Deacon, Queen's bassist, and he was straight, as well as Brian May and Roger Taylor. Freddie was the only "gay" member of Queen, and he was actually bisexual. The cross dressing video for this was also a parody of an English tv show, not a gay pride statement.
