You're all wrong, let me lay it out for you...
The song is about a young couple, the girl still living with her parents.. Who are very much in love. The video starts out with the girl having a break down in her bedroom.. Her mother crying, her father standing at her door. She runs at her father and says "this is your fault, you made him leave! I hate you!" and falls to the floor. The girl starts acting a little weird.. In the video the girl and guy are sitting in his truck in a field... She asks him what does he see in his future.. And he says "I seeyou".. She smiles and gets out of the truck, and he says "what do you see?".. She doesn't answer. Later it shows her throwing up.. Morning sickness and her parents running the boy off of their property, he speeds out of the driveway with her chasing him right behind.. It shows the truck with him in it, the windsheild breaking and him flopping around in the cab.... Then it skips to the end, and shows her running to a cross in the road, and she's crying.. She proceeds to say "I saw you... I saw you.." refering to her future. -

Honestly, the last person is right. It is based of the video, and all you gotta do is listen. Its about a teenage couple who are in love, and the father doesn't like her boyfriend, so he makes him leave. And him and his girlfriend got in some fight over it...And he got in a car accident...And died. And to me it seems as tho..She never really told him how much she loved him..And towards the end of the video..How she starts chasin after his truck. To me..I think that she didn't chase after him the time he did leave, and now it gets her all the time, so she's doin it this time, and ends up where he was killed...This video makes me cry, this has happened to me once before, but we did love eachother..Which makes it worse.

I know a lot of people on the request boards were wanting another interpretation, so here I go... It doesn’t take a lot of deep digging to find this song’s meaning, actually. This is a pretty standard song about a girl leaving a guy, but the catch is that she never even knew that he loved her. When he said goodbye to her one last time, he could have told her everything, but he didn’t (this is the chorus). This is where the chorus comes from. The verses are about his feelings for her and him going through life after she’s gone. The real catch that makes me think that this is an honest, heartfelt song is the part "I can take the rain off the roof of this empty house / That don’t bother me". He’s basically saying that he would, and could, do anything for her without regrets or complaints.

I think the meaning is simple.
It is saying that when you love someone so much that you would do anything for them, but you can't express your feelings and help them through something when they help you through so much, it hurts. You feel like your are the most horrible person in the world because you would do anything to help them but you don't know what or how to help. And as they leave because they need time you want to stop them but you can't because you don't know what to say, and you feel like a minute speck in his life when all he need is time to think because he love you.
(He could represent anyone)

The way i see it is, they were inlove, parents didnt approve, he saw her in his future, which gave her security after knowing that she is pregnant with his child, but when he asked what she say she ran off, which makes him dying worse. she never got to tell him that she saww him in her future and being pregnant and didnt tell him didnt make anything better and the fact that her father made him leave just makes her feel like its in some way her fathers fault, because if his father would have let him stayed he might not have died, ergo none of this would have never happened.

I think this song means just loosing someone even if you were just friends. Like one friend asks if they want to be in a relationship. But eventually gets turned down and the friends really have "feelings" for each other, the other friend just didn't realize it because it just happened to me.

what I got for the song is this... regardless of what is keeping them apart it is killing them not to be able to tell the other how much they love them.Think about it. Living your life with words left unsaid eats away at you inside. The whole pregnancy part of the video may or may not have to do with the song but it shook me to the core. I had a similar thing happen and everytime I hear this song I cry.

well....i don't know about her being pregnant (as i have heard lots of people saying) she was throwing up because she was so sad and thats what i always thought.and as for the "not true" i thought that that was right after the parents told her he died and she was in denile or something meaning "its not true" that he is dead.and one thing i always thought was that (the one scene right before she went running after the car) it was right after the parents sent him out so it shows her watching him leave (at 3:55 in the music video time line through 4:00) and the fading sorta part (at 4:14-4:18) was when they "made him leave" (aka the last time she sall him "tears")and it shows her turning into back torward the house AND her running after him...(note that she was wearing two different outfits so showing that she DID'NT run after him in the car when he left aka when he got in the car crash)meaning that it was two different days and she is somewhat maybe "wishing" she ran after him so she could have saved him (SO sad) but i don't know i wish rascal flatts were here to give us the official interpratation ;)

when i think of this song i think of my mom. she died a few months after she told me she was going to try to find a way for me me to live with her. like it says 'what hurts fhe most was being so close...and never knowing what could have been ' and it is hard dealing with the pain of losing her everywhere i go. sometimes i think life gets a laugh from kicking me when i'm down

this song is talking about a couple who are in love but the girls parents dont like her boyfriend and they dont want them together so her dad breaks them up with some lie and hes upset and speeding out of the driveway onto the road and later up the road his car starts to flip and she hears about it from her father and she starts blaming him...which it is really his fault and she cant get over him and she misses him. i love this song it shows what true love really is!!

i think its about a girl and her boyfriend her dad really doesnt like him and runs him off the property so they hug and she turns and sees him and when he gets in the truck little did she know that would be the last time she ever saw him alive and not telling her father how she really felt and never gave him a response to his question what do you see at the end her response is you!

To me...this song has to deal with some family members that wanted nothing to do with me and I tried getting close to them and I tried to write to them or call them but it never worked. They really just pushed me away entirely. Now I don't know where they are at.
I live with my aunt and uncle. The family members that don't want me are my parents. I'm 16 years old and the last time I saw my parents was when I was 12.
I sung this song one year at my high school talent show and ended up in tears halfway through the whole song. Everyone I knew stood up and cheered me on including teachers and eventually complete strangers. This song speaks volumes to me. It explains most of my life.
But that's just me. -

I think everyone's right in some ways on the interpretation of this song. I feel there's more than meets the eye in this song also. I feel that she was going to tell him she was pregnant in the truck but for some reason could not. I do feel she loved him but maybe not enough she thought until he of course dies in the end. When she goes to his cross she can finally let go and admit it. 'I saw you' It was in deed to late.

i listened to this song so much tht i know it by heart and to me thisa songs meaning is about a coupls...the woman loves him but yet the man does not and he basically dumps her...and she goes through every day thinking about him and loving him...and thts what hurts the most...is thinking and hurting. or at leats that is wat happened to me...

What I really see is that this video & the lyrics are just like an island & the earth! Most of the songs of Rascal Flatts and Poets of the fall are having a big literature encapsulated within those. Each listener can apply the same song to his/her own situation and mentality, most of the times. The video of this song belongs to the song, but song doesn't belong to the video! Why I did say so is that the screen writer has done a tremendous job by choosing a possible situation which may be fallen in to the same set. Because a video can not include everything that all the listeners may feel when they hear the same. So he has selected one, and they have done a perfect video for the song. But the lyrics of the song has a wide range than what includes in the video. This is not something which is applicable to those who lost their lovers because of the parents. It can be applied to many more situations that someone worries about someone else that he/she just lost, somehow.

I take this song so close to me and whats happening with me. I see my guy around me all the time, I remember him pleading and asking for love or just a loving gesture or just a smile and now when he is gone I miss him so much I see him around me all the day all the night I could feel his hand at times but he is gone. When we were together we were so alike that every1 else was jealous of us having so much fun, cares and sense of possession. I really don't know when I fell in love with him, at the time when he left his last message when he was saying that he would die, I stopped him and asked him t at-least take care of him but he was so heart broken that he didn't reply and now I am dying to talk to him, I want to see him, feel him, love him, wants to be with him but he is gone...but deep down I know he is mine and I belong to him whether I meet him again or not. I miss losing those words that I wanted to say but what stopped me is unknown. I so want to tell him that how I'm spending my days like a dead person and the I have foe him in me is so much that I don't know that he would ever be able to feel it or not. I want to tell him that I love my sugar.

This song is about a man/boy who endured all the pain caused by his girlfriend when she left him. But of all the pain he has endured, the one that hurts him the most is that he still has so many things to tell her. The reason for this is that he believed that if he had told her everything, the outcome would be different. She might leave him even after he has told her everything, but maybe his heart will be lighter. She might also choose not to leave him after hearing what he has to say.

It's about a teenage girl and her boyfriend, the girls dad doesn't like the boyfriend, one day he makes the boy leave and on the way home the boy has a car wreck (if u watch the video you'll learn this in the end and dies) Well the girl blames her dad, and she also blames herself for not telling him how she really felt. then it goes through her life without him there, then you realize the girl is pregnant. and then it shows her running to where the crash took place and there is a little cross and she tells him that in the future she see's him. Watch the official music video, and it will make everything clear! :)

the boy and the girl are obviously dating, and when she has the morning sickness, i thought she may be pregnant and that's what made the parents drive her boyfriend off. and then he gets in the wreck which brings back in the beginning of the video, how she was pushing her dad saying 'you made him leave!' and all that.
