I could be wrong but I think this song is about anthony's life and the hollywood rockstar dream he fought to get into. Chop top is a record producer who informed him of another hit album. He started young trying to be an actor with his dad. "choose not the life of imitation" refers to the life of an actor he chose not to persue. "distant cousin to the reservation" refers to his indian ancestry. "east side love is living on the west end" is stating that there is no hate for the east coast. There has always been a rivalry between east and west coast. "knock out but boy you better come to" describes the popularity of the band going down at one point and to stay in the biz you have to produce good records - a lot of bands get knocked out and never come to. "go write your message on the pavement" refers to leaving your mark as a hollywood star would do on hollywood blvd. And "burnin' so bright I wonder what the wave meant" is the period that the rhcps hit it big in the 90's and all the glamor and fame and parties and drugs etc. That went with it so fast and burning bright and then the fame dwindles down and your left wondering what happened. The rhcps are back stronger than ever. They have kept up with the wave. Wave: a widespread feeling, opinion, tendency, etc.
The world I love
the tears I drop
to be part of
the wave can't stop
ever wonder if it's all for you
the world I love
the trains I hop
to be part of
the wave can't stop
come and tell me when it's time to
this song I believe describes anthony's life because his life is his music and without it what would he be or do. Can't stop he's addicted to the life of a rockstar which allows him to do whatever he chooses. The party the shindig. And why would you stop when you've worked so hard to get there or is it the life for you? Of course its the life - living in beverly hills, touring the world, hosting tv shows, mingling with the stars, doing anything going anywhere, buying anything you want - never working a real job your entire life. Can I get 2 or maybe even 3 lives like that?

This song basically seems like he's saying that he got hooked into a lifestyle for someone ("ever wonder if it's all for you") and now that he's so caught up in it, he can't get out. Maybe drugs?

I think its bigger than just a girl I think it transcends to something as big as evolution and human life. The tittle is something that I believe points to this theory. Can't Stop, you can't stop life you get caught up in the wave and you live as a part of this wave sharing its joyess highs and crushing lows, but either way you are living as a free spirt . Sometimes you wonder if its all for you because it is just all so beautiful and over whemlming to a point where we feel that we have no control and most of the time desire no conrol over this wave. It discusses also a natural part of life, that of fighting to survive, dealing with bi-polar women, the birth and death of music, nations, and people. It also gives short life lessons. I think the overall message, you can't stop life.

I think the overall message isn't solely focused on the fact that you can't control life. I think the message is that everyone should make an effort to make a difference and speak their mind despite the fact that they cannot control the world around them. It's not only about embracing the things that are overwhelming in life and doubts you have, it's working through that and becoming inspired to do something impacting with your life anyway.

q2tzbstr8 person, um yeah, ak had a girlfriend who slit her arms with razor blades in his bathroom while he was doing drugs so you no your probally rite about the whole song thing. But the 'so smart she's leading me to ozone'i think is about the gas stuff he has injected at the mo because of the heptis C thingy he got, so it could be something about that.
oh well; who knows; anthony is great at writing lyrics woteva:)

Okay, it's talking about how the way of life just goes and people will do anything to be popular and cool. "sweet heart is bleeding in the snowcone" snow cone is referring to cocaine and the when you take to much you bleed out your nose. So this girl he likes is taking cocaine and she is bleeding in it. "so smart she's leading me to ozone" is saying that the ozone is just another way of saying high. So in other words...she is trying to get him high.

This song seems to be a documentary of the evolution of mankind. "Use two sticks to make it in the nature
I'll get you into penetration
The gender of a generation
The birth of every other nation
Worth your weight the gold of meditation
This chapter's going to be a close one "
talking of humanity being really primitie and then. "Kick start the golden generator
Sweet talk but don't intimidate her
Can't stop the gods from engineering
Feel no need for any interfering "
and wirth the chorus "Can't stop addicted to the shin dig
Cop top he says I'm gonna win big
Choose not a life of imitation
Distant cousin to the reservation
Defunkt the pistol that you pay for
This punk the feeling that you stay for
In time I want to be your best friend
Eastside love is living on the westend
Knock out but boy you better come to
Don't die you know the truth is some do
Go write your message on the pavement
Burnin' so bright I wonder what the wave meant
White heat is screaming in the jungle
Complete the motion if you stumble
Go ask the dust for any answers
Come back strong with 50 belly dancers
Chorus:
The world I love
The tears I drop
To be part of
The wave can't stop
Ever wonder if it's all for you
The world I love
The trains I hop
To be part of
The wave can't stop
Come and tell me when it's time to "
It shows that through it all, love and music never changes. No matter how much we get caught up in the wave of evolution, love and music will always be what it is today....nothing can ever change it.

No in the beginning of scar tissue he injects ozone to stop his hepatitis from coming back, which he got from doing drugs (perhaps a dirty needle or something)

Anyone who read Scar Tissue, and read it closely could tell you that the Ozone is for the Hep that he got. What is interesting is that it isn't the kind oyu get from dirty needles or sex, it's the kind you get from bad seafood, so my guess is that he maybe got it in Indonesia or Australia.
I believe the song is about music being a part of social evolution and the evolution of himself as a human being.
Can't stop addicted to the shin dig
he can't stop making music because it's what he does best.
Choose not a life of imitation
He discovered music shortly after he broke away from his father, who was an actor in Hollywod. In Scar Tissue, he talks about being the perfect replecation of his father from the age of twelve until he was about sixteen and moved out.
Distant cousin to the reservation
Refering to himself as the subject of part of the song, he has distant Indian heiritage.
Knock out but boy you better come to
Don't die you know the truth is some do
The Chilis had died in the mid nineties between when John left and came back. eventually they came to and didn't die as a band or as a group of friends.
The world I love
The tears I drop
To be part of
The wave can't stop
Ever wonder if it's all for you
The world I love
The trains I hop
To be part of
The wave can't stop
Come and tell me when it's time to
The chorus refers to everyone being part of life. I don't believe that the song is about life not being able to be stopped, but the wave of existence itself.
As for writing your message on the pavement, he's saying that everyone has something to say, so you should say it, that makes the workd a more honest place.
Not every line has to mean something special. As a writer, some of the things I put onto paper are just things that sound good with the idea that I'm trying to convey. Maybe Anthony is doing the same.
I don't think anyone but Mr. Kiedis will ever know the true meaning of this or any Chili Peppers song unless he chooses to relay it, just like any piece of art created. Why don't we all just enjoy it for what it is instead of beating it to death with a hose? These interpretations of mine are just things that come into my head from what I've read on this thread and what I know about AK, but I'm not really sure I want to know what he's saying completely, I like just hearing it flow.

Ok, I KNOW this isn't the meaning of the song, but it's just something I noticed; Almost all of the lines sound like the could be referring to The Great Gatsby. For any of you who have read it, just listen to the song, then reevaluate it. It's crazy

This song is about him trying to get a girl who is with someone else (10 more reasons why I need someone new, just like you). It also has to do with "going with the flow" IE: letting your life go were it will instead of trying to direct it or letting things fall into place on there own.

I wanted to look at the particular aspect of "the wave". For more info about it check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Third_Wave, but summing it up, it was a teacher whos students couldn't understand how people in nazi germany came under the influence of hitler and followed him, believing him in everything. so the teacher did a secret experiment making an elite student group called "the third wave" and he made rules for the students, some a little absurd, and the students follwed him, so much that the experiment started tog et out of hand, he then revealed to them the meaning of all of this as a lesson to them all. The lyrics indicate how they "wonder what the wave meant" and no matter what, they would anything for "the wave" and they can't stop.

I think that all music can be interpreted however you want...but the literal meanings of the lines are right there... Yes he's Indian so he's a cousin to the reservation and such and the leading him to ozone probably refers to the Hep-C.
But take the song however you want to and learn from it.

I think anthony is kind of, in a way, talking to the fans?
''The world I love
The tears I drop
To be part of
The wave can't stop
-->Ever wonder if it's all for you<--''
Saying that, the music they make, the industry they're part of, the life they live, they arn't doing it just for themselves, but for 'You'..as in the fans.
Plus, I know the video has nothing really to do with it, but when anthony says the line ''ever wonder if it's all for you'' he grabs the camera and speaks directly to it,as if he is talking to you watching at home..he also at one stage, kisses the camera, by kissing his two fingers and pressing them up against the camera lens.
So I think that part of the song, is referring to the people who buy the music.

Somehow I wonder why everyone is missing out the couple "spirit" references.
Could these have to do with John's "ability" to hear some kind of ghosts (or as he calls them: spirits).
"Cant stop the spirits when they need you
This life is more than just a read through"
For eg. (only my opinion), this refers directly to the spirits and the recovery from drugs (I guess they helped Frusciante in the rehab, and John helped Anthony kick the habit). I guess it's that you have to listen to the spirits and respect life.
And for the record Anthony and Flea really believe that John hears the spirits, I'm not sure about Chad. Or at least they seem like it in interviews where people ask John about this stuff. Or maybe they're just polite.

I think it is about enjoying life as much as possible since Zecharia Sitchin claims aliens from Nibiru are coming in 2012. He also talks a lot about mining for gold and genetic experiments which I believe are mentioned in the song.

this song HAS no meaning. The lyrics are WRITTEN arround the main guitar riff developed by frusciante. It's just a collection of random thoughts, and AK has said this.

well i think it describes his life as a rockstar but the chorus can be interpreted differently. i think that the lyrics are about someone in his life that is helping him keep going. and if all that hes done is for her.
p.s. my best friend told me that this sone reminds him of me :)

I see "go write your message in the pavement" as telling you to leave your mark. His message to you. Say what you have to say, speak your mind, don't be afraid yes. but also, more importantly, meanwhile leave an impact. leave your mark on society. like AK. and it has shocked be a bit that no one else has mentioned that.
"come and tell me when its
time to" may be saying let me know when this wave has ended. Tell me when its time stop feeling this. and time to go back to what was.
"ever wonder if its
all for you" I think means that's how he felt during so. Some times it would get to the point that hed wonder if its all for him. or wonder if its all for everyone. The point of it is for you to experiance it.
or maybe he's trying to say that that wave was for you. It was done to teach you something. (referring to the third wave.) the high school teacher who gave his students a set of nazi like rules. was highly uniforminitory and grew as a blind mass amongst the school, harming those refusing to conform. The one boy lived by it. believed in it so bad he stayed in that frame of mind when his teacher revealed that in was Hitlers plan & concepts he was seting for them. In the gym revealing the TV with Hitlers face on it when the students dispersed, he the only one remaining. with the teacher trying to explain to him to get him out of that mind frame. (I read the book when I was a kid)
perhaps it was a reference to that. Saying that I was all done for you. In order to teach you something. but at the same time the teachie could also fall into his lesson .. (as did the teacher. or start to. I think ..)
keep in mind people that lyrics may have multiple meanings, please ..
and may I just add - I am from NY and I have recantly moved out to California. and I am a very LOVE-connect to everything - person. my friends are left back on the eastcoast but the love that radiates from within me stays with them and spreads around the air here. Eastcoast Love is Living on the Westend
(cant wait to go see them in a few XD)
