Well, since Relient K is a contemporary christian band, my interpretation is that he's turning to god. Even if you tried (for me at least) I don't think you could find a non-religious feel to this song...
That's why all the yous are capitalized...They're talking about him as in god

Exactly! Its played on all these mainstream shows and stations because some people think that he is talking about a girl or whatever, but some people to fail to realize they are a christian band, so they mean god when they sing this song. Matty t said that in this interveiw:
well its probably easier to go to yahoo and search relient k, then click on nokia unwired at hard rock live- relient k
good luck trying to find it.Lol.

I don't know the song exactly, but I do know that Reliant K is a Christian band, in most of their songs they tend to come off as talking about a girl, but majority of the time they are talking about God. That is why all of the You's are capitalized in this song. I find it kind of ironic because I saw Reliant K at a huge Lutheran Youth gathering and then a year later at Warped Tour. Two extremely different environments!!

ok...so we all know it is a Christian band. Now here is proof why: One of the lines says "I know to live you must give your life away." What they are talking about is to live eternally (like in heaven) you must give your life to Jesus. Just saying to the past people who wrote their interpretations... next time, please captilize God. It is kinda disrepectful not to. I didn't say that to piss any one off, just informing u.

This song's message is actually pretty basic. It's the christian struggle that we live in... falling into sin, being ashamed, pushing god away, repeat. We as Christian's know the way to redemption but sometimes its hard just letting go. We need an escape.

I think that some of the other interpretations are pretty correct in saying that this is a religious song. I would just like to elaborate on one line:
"The beauty of grace is that it makes life not fair."
At first, I didn't understand the line, until one day in religion class, I was dozing off until my teacher mentioned "grace". As she explained it, I began to understand...
Grace is the gift that God gives us--the unconditional love, that he will have for us no matter what.
Saying that grace is unfair is pretty true. Whether you're a bad sinner or you rarely do things wrong, God will love you the same. And that's the beauty of it. =D

This song is about a person's instincts too try to solve their problems on their own. The last few lines sum it up well.
"I fought You for so long
I should have let You in
Oh how we regret those things we do
And all I was trying to do was save my own skin
But so were You
So were You"
Those lines are some of the most meaningful lines, I believe, written by many present day christian bands.

When I first heard this song, I thought it symbolized my life perfectly: Trying to escape everything but not being able to. I didn't know Relient K was a Christian band until I looked up the lyrics and noticed that every single "you" is capitalized. They are talking about the Christian god, but I still like the song.

The lead singer was definitely not a drug addict

At first i thought that this song was about a girl that he liked or someone but then i saw "He’s told me the way and I’m trying to get there" and that kinda led me to believe that hes talking about god or jesus or someone like that because i think its like he has doubted his self and the decisions that he has made so now he is turning to god or jesus or who ever to help guide him out of the dark so that he can finally see the light. So i guess the genre of christian rock that they are in kinda fits more now... its still a cool song even if you want to interpret it however you want songs are like poetry they are often left for the audience to decipher the meaning and there really is not right or wrong answer

for some reason, during religion class, we were talking about abram ( eventually Abraham...but whatever...) and it reminds me of this song...so I looked at the lyrics...and it kinda makes sense...in a way...so I think this song is talking about abram and his trip to canaan...

I did an analysis for this song for a school project and I kind of saw it as a person who messed up their life because and, although someone was offering help all throughout his/her life, that person didn't take it and now he/she's really regretting it.

well i think that the song means that he is trying to get away from something. and also that he was trying to push god away from his life but he nows regrets it... he needs it so bad in his life.... that is just me.
