Seether: Broken Meaning

Broken Lyrics

I wanted you to know I love the way you laugh
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain away
I keep your photograph and I know it serves me well
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain

'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel...

Okay, now I feel bad because so many people are saying this is a breakup song and this is me and my girlfriend's song, the reason I thought it would be a good song is because we are apart so often, and later in our upcoming relationship we are going to be apart for some time, up to 3 years and I thought the song was about when your apart everything seems so much worse, and that even though the world is trying to separate them, they still love each other but that's my guess,

not about amy lee. its about being apart/breaking up in general. Hate me all you want for telling you the truth.

The song is about broken persons love, no matter how much you love him/her you're just so broken inside that you can always manage to push him/her away. At the end you'll just have to separate though it's the last thing you want to, you know it's for the best. Because now it's no longer just you that's broken, but also the relationship and nothing in the world can fix that much pain.

This song is amazing! It is about being lonely and missing their heroin (extremely loved one). They wqnt them back desperately.

This song makes me think of a couple that try everything they can to make it work and it just doesn't, so they finally decide to cut their ties and move on to where they can be civil exes rather than a warring couple. Everytime I hear it I'm reminded of something I heard once long ago ... 'I will always love you, but I can never be with you'.

I believe music is an escape for whoever needs it at the time. To me, this song helped me overcome the worst/biggest obstacle i've ever faced...opiate addiction. To me, stealing each others pain was in regards to my thoughts and feelings about my previous herion addiction and experiencing the withdrawl symptoms of a physically as well as emotionally downing substance with someone you love. You don't want the other one to hurt yet ur broken and open and weak.
    Just my thoughts :)

From what I was looking at, this is a song about making someone, who is not described nor given a name so others have no clue, happy by "steal [their] pain" away. He is saying how much he feels bad about making someone sad and about how much he misses them. In Amy's part, she is saying how the hard time is over and they can make everyone happy again. This someone is unknown, but it most likely might refer to his daughter he never sees. Although they might refer to each other. This song is one of the most widely thought-provoking songs and remains un-coded.

The video was filmed in a trailer park that was demolished in a meth explosion. They sing about how there was no one left to fight. I feel that its about an addiction, two people fighting an addiction that they were both suffering from, but that they couldn't fight together. The burning scarecrow is an Ecuadorian tradition meant to destroy all the bad things that happened over the last 12 months.

The first time i heard this song i thought it was someone that you loved had passed away like when seether sings:"i keep your photograph, and i know it serves me well".Then it's amy's part:"the worst is over now and we can breath again".This is one of those songs with multiple meanings. But anyways this is the most beautiful and saddest song i've heard in my life i adore it.

i love this song and i think its about couple who are having problems and are reminding themselves of why they need and love eachother...and to the person who said it should b on the twilight soundtrck: plz dnt ruin a good song by associating it with an overpopularized horrible excuse for a book, or series of books i should say...ty

I think this song should have been added to twilight soundtrack. But nonetheless, I 'm going to try, from twilight POV. 'Steal your pain away' is pbly edward comforting bella after he moves away. The whole song is about first edward telling how much he misses her and wants her, and then bella saying she can't live without him and is 'broken when i'm lonesome'.

if u kno anything about seether you would kno broken was written a good year before shaun morgan actually made the duet with amylee, all things considered i believe its about a time of loneliness without the one you love. just thinking of times you have together is just too beautiful to bare being away from them

    2 theories:

A deployed soldier talking to his girlfriend, listening to her laugh and holding her when he's home. He's been away a long time and even though the longest part is over-all he has of her now is a photograph

A couple simultaneously dealing with an addiction, one is gone in rehab and the other is used to having them there to help with the pain but their distance is putting strain on their recovery

This song has great insight into the aspects of a relationship. Personally, I see a pair of friends that are afraid to take the next step.
"I wanted you to know that I love the way you laugh..." The guy is trying to display that there is more there, and he wants to be the one to "hold you high" and "steal your pain away," the one she turns to for comfort, her foundation and strength. He always has her on his mind, and it hurts him when he isn't near her.
Then it gives insight into the woman's point of view. She has been struggling through something and wants to turn to him because he "takes my pain away." She feels that there is something between them and "so much left to learn" about their relationship, and "no one left to fight" for trying to stop them.
Then the duet is the two finally telling the other about their true feelings and how they want to be so much more...
It is so romantic and heartbreaking. Bittersweet at first but then loving.

I think this song is about how someone who has lost their way and doesn't think they can make it on their own. I almost think that Shaun singing is like he's singing about someone else, and he just merely can see the other person is unhappy. maybe the other person just lost something big in their life (like a family member or deep relationship) and since the person he is singing about realizes that they are not ok when they are alone, but put on a front to other people, and that he would do anything to make the other person better. And when the person realizes that they are not right (normal, happy), they admit the worst is over since they were able to face the reality and can now heal. even if they are missing what they lost. but, its definitely not about a breakup with the party in the song, but maybe even a divorce with their parents and its how they're coping with it.

Erm....this song was out practically centuries before Amy and Shaun even THOUGHT about dating. lol Nah, I tink (yes tink) this song is about how...someone has lost something. Maybe their way, their life, their love and now they feel broken and torn because it's gone and they don't know how to get it back. They where so used to feeling 'good' with it around...they don't know how to cope now. It's a beautiful song really.

Yeah I'm sure Seether wrote this song long before Amy Lee and Shaun were going out. I think it has something to do with an ex long before her.
