Yes, major emotional turmoil. Note that the character (this doesn't have to be the singer!) is not the one talking about guns or any reference to violence. He (if we can assume boy/girl here) just has a mix of deep feelings ranging from attraction to indifference to thinking about needing to leave. Despite the statement about a gun (which could even just be a metaphor for anything drastic, like divorce threats), he still loves her - enchanted, despite not being able to make things work.. Hence the references (many more) to faking. Awesome song, btw. The musical power and emotional delivery really strikes a chord with me. Summary: I think it is all about emotional volatility in a relationship, and a situation that seems to continually get to the "crazy place".
