No, I don't think it's that. I think it's about his girlfriend dying and he was framed or something, but I don't think in real life but like in his mind.

I think this is a song about a girl who was said to commit suicide hence the line "it's not a suicide it's a crime," but her boyfriend doesn't believe that's true. So he goes to the autopsy to tell the doctor what he found out. The girl had poison in her stomach so she couldn't have shot herself.

I dunno why, but when I saw them live, they said the song was about all the Dad's out there who didn't love their daughters.

OK, first off....you guys need to like read some non-literal poetry. Buddy is singing about a girl (which he probobly broke up with), and he's saying he feels broken because he doesn't want her to leave him(in comparison to a death) and wants her to come back...hes confused (brought you in for questioning). Other lyrics in this song such as "its not a suicide, its a crime.." probobly refer to her leaving him not because of what she did but something wrong he did. its all about love and betrayal baby.

I think you are close. But I think it's about Buddy being over this girl and he wants to break up with her but first we wants to find out what went wrong. Her refers to her as being dead- a dead relationship. Possible poisoning could mean that maybe someone helped him make the decision to drop her or maybe he found someone else.

This song is a tricky one to figure out, but if you look at the lyrics closely, it is about a girl who is emotionally "dead" to him, and he is singing about how he wants to figure out what happened between them, and that things weren't as it seemed to be in their relationship. As said on songfacts.Com

when I saw them live the other day Buddy said something along the lines of "This song is about a lass, Who unfortunately isn't alive anymore. I wrote this song for my old friend Courtney" something like that anyway. but the song is a story obviously, a tribute to his old friend.

Obviously you guys should watch the video. I only saw one person get close to the right meaning.

The song is metaphorical, lets play doctor is a different and subtle way of making things the way they used to be, but in that he wants her to make him understand why and where things went wrong, "you could help solve this case .... for me" "we'll have to hurry up before the flesh decays..." Flesh is a metaphor for the spark in a relationship, he's saying that they have to hurry up and find a way to make things ok before there is no chance left. "your death is such a shame" = I don't think of you any more and I can't bear it. "It's not a suicide, it's a crime I have a witness, it's clearly evident There had to be someone else present At the time of death, poisons in stomach How could she pull it, if she's dead?" this is tricky to explan but I think, "it's not a suicide, it's a crime" may be about her cheating on him hence the someone else present (who she may have cheated with) and "how could she pull it, if she's dead?" may be from her argument for cheating eg. Her saying something like "you never thought of me so I went with someone who did." to me all this makes sense, what do you guys think?

In my opinion. and there could be a chance that it is this BUT. I think it's about abortion =] Incisions must be made: they had to cut the baby out It's not a suicide, it's a crime: she could have been hurt to an extreme extent that she had no choice but to die. I have a witness, it's clearly evident There had to be someone else present: the baby was still alive in her. At the time of death, poisons in stomach: the baby was the poison. The reason she had no choice but to die How could she pull it, if she's dead?: how could she give birth to the baby when she died. We need a scalpel now Under white lights you lay: the things needed for any operation think about it. It kinda does make sense

It could be about abortion. Sometimes they use a special type of poison to get rid of the baby, and that could be the reason why the line -'time of death, poisons in stomach' could mean and also other lines could be associated to abortion.

Ok I think I've cracked it its about the fathers relationship with her daughter and it was obviously bad, then he's talking about the dad trying to rebuild the relationship. and probly someone got in the way of their good relationship. but that's what the dad is doing.

Listen to the words. It's about one of Buddy's Ex Girlfriends getting shot. Not only does the song AND video show what happened. and also in a magazine a few years ago Buddy explained it was bout an ex girlfriend getting shot and killed.

Buddy said on the bonus DVD for still searching that he just wrote the song to tell a story. he just wanted to sing about a "murder mystery"

Its a fictional story about a guy who's girlfriend or ex-girlfriend is murdered and the narrator dug up her body because everyone else thinks she killed herself and he doesn't believe that. once he does this he finds out she is she was poisoned before she died. So now he is trying to tell everyone that she was murdered and didn't commit suicide but he's having a hard time getting people to believe him. If he doesn't get someone to believe him all the evidence will go away. Also he promises her that he will find out who killed her and make him go to prison for the crime
