Well I think this song is about a couple that has been together for a long time.but all of a sudden she leaves him and gives up on him.even though she always said she would be there with him "*through thick and thin" *-lyrics shane

In my opinion this song is about a guy who loves his girlfriend and is willing to do anything for her, while she cares but not so much. Then one day they both switch. he realizes that he's been doing to much for her and then she realizes she loves him. but he doesn't feel the same anymore. 'i never said i'd give it back.' the chorus still remains the same though, but the person's point of view saying it changes.
