In my opinion, I think this song is based on the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. If you look at the lyrics it says "drink the poison when you think it's over" and Romeo takes the poison because he believes Juliet is dead. another sign is that at the end of the song it says "Verona lives inside of you" which is the setting of Romeo and Juliet.

No, the bit of romeo and juliet is metaphorical. This song tells the story of a relationship, a boy and a girl, that is about to break. The girl is obviously a drama queen, and the guy never asks anything more, hence the bit "I wasn't asking for the world".
