This song was written by the band's vocalist, Corey Taylor, after there was much controversy that the band would break up. Before the coming of their album "Volume 3: The Subliminal Verses" The band was highly stressed and close to falling apart. But the band worked together and wrote this song to show it's relationship with it's fans, and that It would always have their back and would stick together just because of the fans.

I've heard a lot of people saying that "pulse of the maggots" is about loyalty to the fans. But corey taylor is all about anti-establishment, so it could also be about rebelling against the government.
Just because people say a song has one meaning doesn't mean your meaning is automatically wrong.

I agree with first dude.this song is totally about them staying together for the fans."say it again say it again,WE WONT DIE"suports that reasoning. It also means to me anyway that even if they do break up they will allway be lurking in the shadows ready to jump out at the music industries

This song is for both things and you have to leave it like that, but rebellion maybe is not the meaning maybe if for the ones you could give your life, even if you failed, well you tried

I pretty much agree that it must be for the fans. The first verse does sort of make it sound 'anti-establishment' [as someone above me said] but the line 'we fight so no one can fight us. we live, no one can stop us' sounds much more like a statement to the fans or 'maggots' that we're here and we're not going anywhere. we revolt so we can't be controlled. pretty rockin' song and it shows their devotion to the music that they would write a song for their loyal fans.
not a maggot personally. but I definitely have some respect for you guys and gals

I think like above that this song is for the fans and about how there music is anti-government. So this song isn't about anti-government but about there other songs which are saying that. And that doesn't matter what happens to the band as a whole the music is always there to give a second opinion on the government and that the Fans should stick together through thick and thin with or without the band because without the fans there would be no slipknot!

I actually read the interpretation written by Corey himself and this song is about being loyal to the fans and letting them know that Slipknot will always be there for them.

I think it's about a rebellion. In the first verse they list all of the world's problems and they ask us "maggots" to stand up to fight, there's also an emergency siren in the background. They ask "whose with us" so it's saying to fight against the current government power

Let's see, my interpretation is this: this song is about the War in Iraq. How obvious is that? Enough with this "band breaking up" baloney, there are like, nine people in the band, plus a new album's coming out this year. They're not breaking up, not by a long shot.
Well, anyway, look here:
"We never had to fight in the first place/ we only had to spit back in their face"
We just had to fight back against the terrorists who caused 9/11, not all this Iraq business. But that's not all. This song was on one of the "Rock Against Bush" volumes.

lyrics can be taken any way you want them to be taken.
ie. the song can be related to prejudice and discriminiation. "The disadvantage is i never new the plan." That excerpt can be taken as people that are narrow minded see certain other people as lower. Thus giving them a "disadvantage".The "Pulse of the Maggots", as in the title itself, can be taken as society's vigor to eliminate discrimination.
but the 1st guy's does sound gd
