The vocalist is obsessed with someone but he can't seem to get this person because she either doesn't exist or is too perfect for him, and only him.

"A song that no one sings...the unattainable"...but he's not letting it get to him..."but I won't let this build up inside of me. She isn't real. I can't make her real..."

And I always thought it was about true freedom... How people want it, but they realize that it's unattainable in our world.

My interpretation is that the song doesn't have anything to do with a girl or any form of wanting or needing. Just like the first one but a more calm paced sound. Vermilion pt.2 I believe is a song not based on a girl that is not his but a woman who is in a extreme case of being out of sync with her world.the woman is not a woman but vermilion (painting something a violent red) witch is a word describing change in who someone is which like I said is out of sync with what everybody else is doing. The album subliminal versus it self was aiming to describe the change in their music. They evolved (or stepped down) to instead of a hype inverted saint sound anti god and the heavens (heretic anthem, my plague, wait and bleed) from verbally violent and vived to more about their lives. The entire album was based on that change (all but the nameless) perlude nearly shouted it out. So what I am getting at is vermilion pt.2 along with pt.1 is a song about a female going through the same thing. She doesn't exist to the people around her but he knows she is there "she is dressed in all of me". even in the video the woman moving slow while everyone else zooms by. The woman being slipknots music (the new slipknot) everyone else being the rock industry.

Vermilion is fading from dark red to reddish orange.
Scarlett is a dark red. So if it's a song for Corey's wife, then why would the song be fading form red to reddish orange when Scarlet is red? this song leaves me thinking a lot. It's a great song and I'm having a hard time figuring it out.

I think it's disillusion since scarlet is dark red, vermilion being dark red fading to reddish orange. He had this image of Scarlet and with time, he found out that that perfect image of scarlet isn't real (through discussions and fights and as he keeps knowing her more, he keeps finding more imperfections) he can't make her real, cause that perfect image is gone and doesn't exist. So the relationship went from Scarlet (the dark red) to Vermilion(dark red to reddish orange). That's MY theory. I don't know if I'm right. but that could be the right one

I think these songs are about a murder. This is just my opinion though I dunno if it's right or wrong. Part one is about the act while part 2 is about the after math it does make sense if you think about it.
Part one is more aggressive and heavier as it's about killing. And the video everything moves fast around her because the murder is focused on her or the fact that she doesn't exist, she's been killed.

Part two is much more softer because he's guilty or whatever. And in the video she's lying on the ground not moving she's dead her bodies been dumped there. It obvious in the lyrics too.

Part one.
Enter the night that she came home Forever.
maybe she's done something to hurt him and he's seen and taken her home and she'll always stay there forever because he killed her there.

Hard to say what caught my attention fixed and crazy.
he can't remember what about her caught his attention in the first place then he remembers it was crazy on both parts or he's now fixed upon killing her and it's driving him crazy.

I exist through my need, to self-oblige She is something in me, that I despise.
he exists through his need of killing linking back to the theory that he's hurt him she's a desire inside of him or love inside of him that he hates from what she's done.

I get nervous, perverse when I see her it's worse. But the stress is astounding It's now or never she's coming home Forever
When he sees her he gets nervous about his deed. Maybe the perverse thing is about a necrophilia (someone who fucks dead people) the stress of killing her is getting heavy so its now or never or it could mean that he's getting perverse because he's going to get such a sick pleasure from hurting her.

Her temples and my chest
maybe when he killed her the temples on her head where on his chest or as he's killing her their on his chest.

She is everything and more The solemn hypnotic My Dalia, bathed in posession
shes everything or was but now he's hypnotised by what she's done she was his god but now she'll forever be bathed in what she's done

She seems dressed in all the rings Of past fatalities So fragile yet so devious
shes dressed in her past deed and when he's hurting her he sees how fragile she is but he just keeps thinking how devious she really is

i won't let this build up inside of me
he has to let his anger out or else he'll go crazy

i don't know what to do when she makes me sad
he doesn't know how to cope when she's upset him in such a way. She's really hurt him and he doesn't know how to cope

Part two.
She seemed dressed in all of me Stretched across my shame,
All the torment and the pain Leaked through and covered me.
I'd do anything to have her to myself,
hes ashamed of killing her all of pain that he caused her of all of the pain that its causing him now is all that he's done he'd do anything to bring her back to life.

I don't know what to do When she makes me sad She is everything to me,.
he dosn't know how to cope with greiving because he's the one who killed her she's still everything to him he misses her.

The unrequited dream,The song that no one sings,The unattainable. She's a myth that I have to believe in,All I need to make it real is one more reason
he uses dream because maybe she was too good to be true she was something that should be impossible or maybe her death should be something that's impossible. The song that no one songs could be meaning no one misses her or is greiving her. The unattainable means that her being brought back to life is impossible the myth part I think means that her being alive or that he didn't kill hers a myth that he has to believe or else he'll go crazy or get arrested all he needs to make others believe or himself is another reason.

A catch in my throat choke Torn into pieces I won't.No.I don't want to be this but I won't let this build up inside of me
hes torn into pieces with what he's done he catches the word murder in his throat and he chokes on sadness he dosn't want to turn himself in or kill himself or whatever but he has to or else he's going to go crazy

either that or it's about a stalker. That's could be why they take of the masks in the video and put on human masks the stalker disguise himself by hiding by the one they want.
just to have her to myself
could be the stalkers desire to have the person.

Vermilion Pt 1
I think it might be the way corey describes how he felt or feels for his wife (or you could just relate it as you like a chick and this is how you feel around her or about her) That he has finally found someone in his life...and really nothing can describe...it's just that special to him...but has a twist to it..that in the end as much as the obsession starts to build you start noticing little things about the person you haven't before...fights happen..disagreements and the perfect person you thought you had before..isn't so perfect anymore..and there is just something...he doesn't know what it is that just draws him to her.

'Vermilion Pt. 1' is about the enrapturing, the buildup, the anticipation and the neurosis," says Taylor.

Vermilion Part 2
Vermilion Pt. 2" is a haunting continuation of the "Vermilion" story, complete with acoustic guitar, violin and singer Corey Taylor's pained, vulnerable delivery. The melody and the overriding theme run through both versions, making them integral pieces to the same complex puzzle. "The differences (between the two tracks) are subtle — 'Vermilion Pt. 1' is about the enrapturing, the buildup, the anticipation and the neurosis," says Taylor. "'Part 2' is the aftermath, the pieces that have to be picked up later, and maybe the guilt of having lived through it."

I personally think that most of this album is about sitting on your ass and not making your dreams come true.
The lyric "All I need to make it real is one more reason" sums it up. In other words the female represents the idea whether it be a female your in love with or just a dream you have that you want to make real but you talk yourself out of it and come up with excuse after excuse why you can't do it but convince yourself that if you have just one more good reason then you'll go for it. And of course it's a never ending cycle- "All I need is one more reason..." "...Just one more..." "...O.k. That one wasn't good enough, give me one more..."

In part one the girl is ignored by everyone. The people are rushing past her and she can't get their attention. I think that may lead into part 2. I think the girl is dead because she committed suicide by jumping over the bridge she keeps on leaning over in part one. She may have killed herself because she was depressed and alone. That is why the butterfly is part of it. She needs something to keep her company so she waits for the butterfly to come out of its cacoon but it keeps on flying away every time she catches it. And in part 2 she is floating around because she is either trying to find someone -possibly the butterfly?- or because she is finally at peace and she is trying to fly around?

Or she could be a figment of someone's imagination- possibly an alter ego or an imaginary person someone put together- and that is why in part one it says that she makes him sad and "I can't make her real". She may make him sad because she isn't real and he wants her to be, and in part two it keeps on saying "I can't make her real" just like it does in part one.

I don't know. Just trying to make a little sense of what is in my twisted head

I think the song is not all about a girl whom she taught to be perfect for him like a dream girl or a soul mate or anything that is synonymous to it. I think its a song of love slowly transitioning to hatred.

I was told that it's about a man obsessing over a woman... I'm not sure if she left and took off or if she never existed... but he goes around killing people for parts of their bodies that remind him of her. Then he takes all the body parts and puts them together to re-make the girl he's obsessing over and he realizes its not good enough..she can't be real.

Upon judging the video after listening to the lyrics, I got the idea that the song was about a man trying to make his fantasy come true, which so happened to be a girl, but he is never able to. This is represented by the video, which shows a dead girl getting flung about the sky in a dreary little prairie scene. It's almost as if he is trying to play God, trying to bring her into life, rising the lifeless body up to awaken her only to realize that in the end, she will never awaken. To say that "she isn't real" is to mean that she is not of this dimension anymore; she's long gone. This is one possible, depressing point of view. Honestly, it's likely just a stalker thing, but anyhoo. I like my interpretation more. =)

Care has to be taken to whether you are interpreting the video (the wind-tossed dead girl), or the lyrics, try not to mix them. If you do, it is ok, but make sure that you mention the relationship between both. There is a psycological theory approach that presents that man wants what is unattainable. This is highlighted in the works of Shakespeare to Slipknot and beyond. Indeed, when analysing, 'pt.2' has to be meassured against 'pt.1' What this simply means that you have to have an understanding of 'pt.1' before moving onto 'pt.2' In a nutshel, 'pt.1' is the desire that one man may have about the unatainable woman, and then attaining the unattainable, "...the night that she came home, forever..." Where home is his heart. So, what is pt.2 then? Pt2 (in the name) could mean one of two things: 1) another version of pt.1 2) the continuation of pt.1 For me, pt.2 is simply the acknowledgement that what he once had with her, will never happen again. He wants her, but at the same time, he want's to forget her too--but he can't. He wants to move on, and he does, but she is still there in his heart. It is a bitter sweet experience and feelings that he wishes he did not have, but is glad that he has it. I hope this helps.

Vermillion pertains to a certain shade of red found only on one's lips. From this we can deduce that the song is about a woman or an invalid name... Seeing the lyrics of the song we can suggest again that the song is about a woman leaving the invalid name well, invalid. Upon review of the lyrics we see that Corey (or whoever it is written to) loves this one woman to death and cannot have her yet can't let go of her. "She was everything to me, the unrequited dream. A song that no-one sings, the unattainable." To answer the question as to whether the girl is real or not is unclear based on the lyrics (and not of a third party). "She's a myth that I have to believe in. All I need to make it real is one more reason." -Desolat3

It's about music. The one with good lyrics that is not popular (,,she's a song that nowone sings'').Where's the art (,,she's a mith that I have to believe'').
