This is actually a song covering Bob Marley's "smoke two joints" because Bradley Nowell was a Marley fan. It talks about how his parents told him to work hard and get a job and not do drugs. Then one day he met a friend who taught him he could do both.

I agree with all above, the song title originated from Marley, but at the time everyone took off on every artists songs. True though Bradley N. found a way to spend time mentally incapacitated and still make amazing mood-swaying music, that had changed history. BASICALLY, a song about pot smoking (IE pot=Marijuana) D.A.N.

It's actually a cover of a song that a reggae band called The Toyes made. The Toyes also did a remake of "Monster Mash" called "Monster Hash".
