I believe that this song is referring to the people of this world that don't care about anything but themselves. 'Smart people outsmarting each other' means that people are in competition to be the best no matter what. 'Then themselves' is referring to people fooling themselves. 'The devil is so lovely' means that Satan is glad that all this is happening.

Once again I may refer everyone to the lyric booklet of the original album, where the quote above "DDevil" reads: "For those who control the central nervous system, control society and the world."

I think it's a mixture of all of your ideas. The song is about people being selfish. The line about plagiarism is just an example of this selfishness. None of you know what SOAD's religion is so there could be Christian message or there might not. The devil reference might just be an easy to use personification of evil and greed.
