The song is not about suicide or a revenge killing here. C'mon guys this is SOAD. Every other song they put out refers to the immorality of death and killing. This song was about the loss of a child - not a girlfriend. The name Clementine was chosen for a reason. The folk-song "My Darlin' Clememtine" was about a man losing his daughter to drowning. The lyrics of Revenga my be murky at best, but this was done purposely, almost all writers and poets do this. Undoubtedly the song is about an abortion performed against the father's will. Since the decision was out of his hands, his revenge will be the regret that she will feel in the future. "it's in the making".
Also - the "Hallelujah Wink" line refers to to the pro life stance he is taking. This is typically a Christian dogma. -

Call me nuts but I think the lyrics are talking about suicide as a form of revenge. "Bleeding in a sink" (slitting your wrists) "choking with a link" (hanging yourself) "killing with a stink" (making a huge mess/fuss about it) "poisining a drink burning up" ingesting cyanide. All the references to giving up on or killing shrinks, giving up on therapy. "Oh my sweet revenge will be yours for the taking it's in the making" As I said someone planning their suicide as a form of revenge forcing that guilt on in this case the girl that laughed at him and sent him away."getting on the brink" obviously this guy was about to snap anyway and this rejection was just the last straw. "Shoulda been could been woulda been would been you" maybe he's saying like you're the one who could have saved me but now it's too late.
I know this is a morbid interpretation but it seems to fit. -

i agree with the top answer. i believe it was insightful to point out that it was actually about abortion, in which this "revenge" is in the making. i wonder how the victim is these days

A lot of people are saying that they commit suicide, but I think he gets revenge by killing the person who mocked him

i think the "couldve been you" is suggesting you wouldve done the same someone you love never gave you a chance to show it.

first of all, i wanna point something. everyone mentions "clementine" as a name but in fact it's a sweet fruit too (my sweet clementine). and it may simply be revenge in general about a b**ch. not forcely a girl the main guy loved?
And personally, when serj says "it's in the making", makes me think about how the sweet revenge is all about the making. on how you plan to revenge. like by chocking with a link, poisoning a drink -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

Maybe I'm too insensitive but I can't accept that this song is about suicide as a revenge for turning him down.
My feeling is that he is about to take his revenge in the name of someone else. That's why he says "My sweet revenge will be yours for the taking" -

clearly its about getting revenge on a girl who rejected the person in the song. all the verses hav a way t kill the girl. "poising a drink" is about killing her wit poison. "bleeding in the sink" is killing her over a sink. and "killing with a stink" is him gassing her somehow or sufficating her. at the end wen daron starts to sing, he is saying the things that the girl said to the boy that wants revenge.
either that or the thing about suicide everybody else put down:) -

hmm i think it's about someone being rejected by a girl, "i saw her laugh, then she said go away" "shoulda been woulda been coulda been you" and to take revenge, he's commiting suicide to put it on her conscience.

Ok I think that just about all of you are right but your not putting in together right it's about a guy who has a girlfriend who breaks up with him for a better man he then plots his revenge on the two thinking of ways to kill them both that's why he uses the reference just your mothers ho because she cheated on him and that makes her a ho

I agree that it's about rejection, but I think he is rejected because there is another guy. This would explain why she would laugh at him because he didn't know about the other guy. This would also explain why he calls her a ho. The "shoulda been, coulda been, woulda been woulda been you" I think means he went ahead with the killing, but he killed the guy instead of the girl or vice versa and whoever he realized that the one left alive had reason to die

I agree with the suicide but how SOAD plays the music and the repetitions of certain phrases like the song begins with quiet music than hits it hard means of sad thoutsthen suicidal and violent thoughts don't no if SOAD know what meanings they put in a song but the people think of things that help shape life from a song ...

This song is about suicide/murder and Clementine. Someone who was not loved by Clementine was driven into insanity and shrinks could not help so the protagonist contemplates suicide with different ways. Bleeding in a sink, choking on a link and poisoning a drink. But it could also be that since our protagonist is not loved by clementine he's is driven into insanity and once again contemplates a way to kill her.

How the fuck does daron get his voice that high?
I mean...
I'm all for the suicide theory. As, what my psychologist would call a 'depressed insomniac with constant violent thoughts', I gotta say that sounds spot on. -

The thing with S.O.A.D there songs could have many meanings so one O.O.V is not the one. Have you noticed how many times his says "baby" and at the end the verse "it's in the taking, making, baking, taking, faking" baking I have a feeling it's about a girl that is pregnant and thinking of ways to kill the baby "poisoning a drink" killing baby with ...Baby poison? , "bleeding in a sink" damageing womb(sink) wall which will bleed ,"choking with a link" well killing foetus by clamping umbilical cord. Now the revenge...The father of the baby raped the girl and gave her the baby so now she got to terminate it, and top of that she's called "just your mother's ho" cause she got pregnant with no boyfriend or husband. Ouch my neck...Brain too big. :) so basically it's about abortion and what comes with it, (btw I spell bad)

I think the song is about someone who is depressed and gets turned down by the love of their life. They resort to getting their own back (revenge) by hurting/killing theirself(bleeding in a sink, etc).
"...Go away" is the turning down part.
"my sweet clementine" is the love of they persons life.
"shoulda been coulda been woulda been you etc" is what they want her to think.
That's just what I think. It's probably a lot deeper than this. -

I like the comment about all the forms of suicide....Only he says the sweet revenge will be yours for the taking. So it could be he will do those things to her as revenge for turning him down. He also calls her a ho several times. Then at the end he says
"my sweet clementine
ho
shoulda been coulda been woulda been woulda been you"
which I believe he means my sweet clementine coulda been you, you ho....But instead he had to kill her to get revenge.
