This is part one of three which goes as following,
1. Ego Brain 2. Roulette 3. Streamline, because they're in order on the album. Get it? Good.
After he meets this girl, the next day she runs off with someone else(this is explained later in the song), when he gets home he feels confused(I have a problem that I cannot explain, I have no reason why it should've been so plain, (Have no questions but I sure have excuse), I lack the reason why I should be so confused.), and he starts blaming himself for why she ran off. As she tries to explain why she made a scene and ran away, he understands but still misses her.

I think, n I say think this song is about serj's or darons feelings about a girl. The lyrics say...
"I know, how I feel when I'm around you,
i don't know, how I feel when I'm around you..."
this probably jus means he has mixed/confused feelings of her.
He don't know wether he still loves her anymore. Due to something happening.
It also sounds as if daron or serj has tried to ask for an explanation, to talk things through,
"left a message but it ain't a bit of use..."
well there's my interpretation, don't know if its any good. But ohwell. Its what I think it means.

I think that the singer, whether Serj or just some guy the song is about, has been blindsided by love. All his cynicism and dismissal of true love gets attacked when he suddenly falls into love that he cannot figure out what it is, how it happened, what to do, or what it is he is even feeling. He knows, he doesn't know, the problem he can't explain, no reason why isn't plain. The true love completely blows his mind.

I like the idea of a girl, BUT, SOAD is so very politically motivated, etc. That I believe in this song, they're talking about the AUDIENCE...US..."I don't know how I feel when I'm around you" could be a direct nod (or slam) against the FAN POSUER, etc. or US, the audience, as he describes the nuances it takes to get to a show...running after planes, etc.
Just an opinion, but I truly feel that these guys are so enured in cause that they're wondering here if everyone else is.
Don't KILL the messenger.

It's a love song that Daron wrote about his girlfriend.

Okay...this song, and I'm sure of this, is about someone realizing that is in love with another person, and is looking forward to what it has been done about the love he or she is feeling, like it has been trying to contact the person, get a response or a clue from the person...however the lines
"I don't know how I feel when I'm around you"
and the changing to
"I know how I feel when I'm around you"
it is clearly pointing something......insecurity from the person who is in love, because he don't know is what is being felt is real......and maybe, I say maybe, it may point that homosexual feelings are around.....
because when you're a homosexual person, and I am a lesbian, you don't know exaclty how do you feel around somebody you like until you've realized wwhat you are.....
i guess this is like that....

"I have a problem that I cannot explain,
I have no reason why it should've been so plain,
Have no questions but I sure have excuse,
I lack the reason why I should be so confused."
The boy has a problem. He can't talk to the girl that he likes. Finally, when he does, he believes it had no effect on her because it was a plain conversation. He then thinks of an excuse for such a boring conversation. When that doesn't work, he becomes confused and doesn't know why.
"I know, how I feel when I'm around you,
I don't know, how I feel when I'm around you,
Around you."
When he's around the girl, he gets a specific feeling that he never gets around anyone else. He doesn't know what kind of a feeling it is, though.
"Left a message but it ain't a bit of use,
I have some pictures, the wild might be the deuce,
Today you saw, you saw me, you explained,
Playin' the show and running down the plane."
I suppose this is a few years from now, and he calls her over the phone. She doesn't answer, and he leaves a message. Unfortunately, she never calls him back. He grows through some pictures of high school (or some other grade where he knew her), and looks at the pictures. He wonders where the girl is. Finally, he sees her outside of his home and they have yet another conversation. That night, he dreams of her running down the plane, and such.
"I know, how I feel when I'm around you,
I don't know, how I feel when I'm around you,
I know, how I feel when I'm around you,
I don't know, how I feel when I'm around you,
Around you.
I know, how I feel when I'm around you,
I don't know, how I feel when I'm around you,
I know, how I feel when I'm around you,
I don't know, how I feel when I'm around you,
Around you, Around you, Around you..."
Basically the same thing, he knows how he feels around her, but he doesn't know the feeling he gets.

i like the 3 part song but i think its out of order.
first is roulette.
second streamline.
third. ego brain.
(streamline could be reversed and it still make sense but this way makes more sense)
roulette is the 2 lovers meeting and all the fun stuff :);]
streamline is his breakdown and how he feels he screwed himself over with this girl and its also the goodbye
egobrain is the pain after the break up
but thats me :)

I think daron wrote this song (with a tad bit help from serj) but anyways-i think it's about serj. i mean, have any of you ever thought that they had a relationship?? why do you think they split up? why do you think daron's all sad and lost all his confidence? why do you think serj is kinda angry and lonely? there's a reason. Something happened between them, and i'm really worried for both daron and serj. they both miss eachother.
just go look at them when they sing this song together. what two guys sing a love song together? they love each other, and they miss eachother!
Tell me if you think the same thing!

This song is clearly about love, or some similar feeling. I think the title Roulette is most likely used to compare love (or the particular relationship being sung about) to roulette, saying that they both are random and rely on luck...or something like that. To me, it's pretty much just be a straight up love song with a weird title
