This is the effects of the after "relationship" time. He's been with a girl, had somewhat of a passionate relationship on the outside/physically, but she doesn't form the same inner feelings he does, basically causing him to become obsessed. She's got this "new head filled up with smoke" because she's recently become confused about their situation: he wants her to still want him, but instead she's moving on and has completely lost any old passion. Her most obvious weakness is her inability to commit, and it's most noticeable after they've had sex... After those "long nights:" she'll be done with him and he'll lie next to her, lovingly, and all she wants is what they've already had. They "lie together just not too close" in one way emphasizes that she's gotten her way with him, and she may be lying next to him in bed but her feelings and emotions are obviously not there. In another way, they physically lie together, but the whole "relationship" aspect is a lie, creating distance in his eyes between them. The background "just not too close" is her verbally letting him know she doesn't want what he wants. This is where his insanity starts coming out: thoughts of making her fall as badly in love with him as he was with her, or physically hurting her cross his head. He just wants to break her down: hear the truth.

"you've got this new head filled up with smoke"
im just thinking this might mean he's cleared up his head, and this person has him all confused or his head "foggy" or "filled up with smoke"
"we lay, we lay together just not too close, too close"
that probably means that he is with someone that he shouldnt be with.

First of all, there is no line that says "I bite my tongue, I take my time", so I don't know what song you're talking about there. Second of all, the line IS "scissor shaped across the bed", so one of the posters obviously doesn't have the CD.
Anyways, I'm not quite sure what this song is about. Parts of it sound like its a person who's in a relationship with someone they don't really wanna be with, and they seem distant. Other parts seem like he likes the person, like at "I trip over everything you say", or "You are everything I want, cause you are everything I'm not". I don't know, this song is one big question mark to me.

Well, I think that the song is about a couple that they like each other but they're kind of distanced. He loves her too much it seems like if he is obssesed with her but she is like not sure about the relationship and he may like hate her but love her... This is the type of relationship where he loves her more than how she loves him. So "I just want to break you down so badly, well I trip over everything you say"... She may not be so sure about the relationship

Its pretty easy to understand. Its about a relationship that goes wrong, and it ends pretty jagged. I think the whole song is him trying to scare her by saying "you won't ever get too far from me" and "im gonna make damn sure" and "..break you down so badly"... kind of like him getting his revenge on her for breaking up with him, rather then be submissive he has taken the agressive response and is trying to scare her, saying he still loves her but he doesn't plan to leave her alone.

I think this song is about a couple ...
he wants her sooo bad 2 be close...
but she either doesn't want 2 be in that relationship, or isn't ready 2 get close,
he gets mad, confused, and frustrated (I just want 2 break you down so badly=mad.... you got my head all filled w/ smoke= confused.... viens tangled close=frustration)
he doesn't understand y she is sooo distant, sooo he wants 2 hurt her for not loving him back or as much as he loves her

ok. I think that the song is about a guy that really likes a girl but she either dosn't know or dosnt careher heads filled up with smoke bc she can't see he likes him even though its obvious. His veins are tangled closed bc he's confused and shy.they lay together but not to close bc he dosn't know how close to get to her.he wants to "break her down" means he wants to get her to like him ,and in the worst way is obviously sex lol. you hollow out my hungry eyes is he thinks she's beautiful."I trip overevery thing you say" means he's nervous aroud her when he says he's gonna make damn sure that you can never leave he's getting obsessed with this girl and he dosn't want her to leave

This song to me has to people, opposites. Opposites attract. The couple is sexual, but one longs for a personal relationship, while the other is completely content ith just sex. It is frustrating to the maximum to the point where you just want to rip them apart with your extreme misture of emotions, which overload and equal up to complete anger.

This may be long winded, but hear this out, it's going to be as thorough as possible.
Ok guys, well, I'm kinda surprised because I thought there would be more people who share the same opinion as me, and I guess not, but oh well, here's my two cents:
First of all, I don't think that it's as sexual or as..."demanding" as most of the opinions think, (demanding being a serious lack of vocabulary, I mean where the guy is kinda desperately in love with her but you know what I mean.) you know how when you're in love with someone, they're all that you really can see or care about, or kinda like you're high? I think that that's where "you've got this new head filled up with smoke" means, and by "new head" I think he means he just met her...Idk. I also think that the first verse sets the stage for the whole song when he says that her weakness is her being way better than he is, kinda like the antagonist in the plot if you will...It'll make sense, I promise.
In the pre-chorus, he says "we lay together, just not too close" is only on account of her, also backing up what adam just said in verse 1, but he would get as close as he could in the relationship (marriage?) if only she would let him. Also, in the background you hear the question "how close is close enough?" kinda like he's pushing the boundries to maybe sex. I think he means close as in the general relationship and the physical relationship.
As for the chrous, I think that he means that he understands that in the relationship, he's bringing her down, and they both know that he's the worst thing for her, and she could be spending time on more worthwile things, and he understands that, but he's asking her to stay with him in "I just wann bring you down so badly" and "in the worst way" would be with him.
In the second verse, he says "my inarticulate store bought hangover hobby kit" which in my opinion, equals alcohol. I say this because isn't a hobby something you do on your own free time? So a hobby kit that you buy from a store that gives you hangovers is alcohol in my mind. Maybe he's an alcoholic in the story, idk. As for "you hollow out my hungry eyes" I think that it means that she's teasing him (not sexually, guys, lol) but by still staying with him, kinda like she feels sorry for him, and I think that that part is pretty important as they repeat it, and tbs doesn't repeat things because they're just bored or because it sounds cool, that's panic! At the disco. Now I don't have to repeat the pre-chorus and the chorus, and on to the interlude.
When he says "i'm gonna make damn sure that you can't ever leave. No, you won't ever get too far from me, you won't ever get too far from me," I'm pretty sure that he means that he's going to do all he can to make himself a better person, just so she'll have a reason to stay with him, and I guess that would even mean giving up alcohol.
Well, anyways, that's just my two cents, and mine aren't any beter than your guys' opinions, and as for the alcohol thing, I never premeditated that and I just thought of that as I was writing this. If you've read all this, thanks for caring so much about this song. I love it, I swear, I've listened to this song 6+ I'm sure of it. It even says so in my itunes, lol, and that's not even including when I listen to my ipod, lol :) kk, thanks for hearing me out, if you want to contact me, go ahead, holla at me.

This interpretation is for the "I just wanna break you down so badly, in the worst way" part. In an earlier interpretation I read that this line meant that he even had thoughts of physically hurting her. But I think that he may have meant it to mean: "I just wanna break you down so baadly" meaning to break her down in a psychological way. When I hear "break down" I think of breaking down a problem to find the source of what is wrong. He is wanting to analyze her more deeply and find the problem so he could fix it and and make her want him back as much as he wants her. "I just wanna break you down so badly" (in the worst way)
That's what I think... M4tt

K this is my interpretation. This song is about a boy who is in love with a girl. The girl knows this but doesn't want to be more then just friends
"you've got this new head filled with smoke"
the guy is totally obssed with the girl he just can't get his mind off her ( shee is the smoke inside his head)
"ive got my vains all tangled close"
hes tangled up in love with her can't move on to a new girl
"to the jukebox bars you frequent (there) the safest place to hide"
every time he tries to make a move or get closer she rejects him (runs away and hides)
"a long night stand with your most obvius weakness"
her weakness is she knows that guy likes her so she tries not to reject him in mean way
"you start shaking at the thought"
she doesn't want to be more than friends (she is disgusted in just thinking about it)
"you are everything I want because you are everything I'm not"
he loves her because he thinks she is the missing piece to him
without her he will be nothing
"we lay together just not to close"
there are only friends not close enough to be lovers
"I just want to break you down so badly"
i may be wrong on this but he knows that she knows that he likes her so he wants to get revenge (if that makes sense lol)
"I trip over everything you say"
he thinks that she may have feelings for him him by what she says, but only to find out she doesn't (or it could be that he thinks to much about what she says that it is making him depressed knowing that she feels differently)
"my inarticulate store bought hangover hobby kit, it talks
it says, "you, oh, you are so cool."
not to sure but I think he is depressed and he wants to get over her but he can't he can't help but thinking she is the one (the kit is him and what it says is something that he wishes would go away)
"scissors shaped across the bed"
sry but I have no idea what this means lol
"you are red violet red"
she is mean
"you hollow out my hungry eyes"
she is leading him on only to go no where at all( his eyes are hungry for her but they are hollow because they get nothing at all)
"I bite my tounge I take my time"
he won't give up hope that there is still a chance of being with together with her
"im gonna make damn sure that yo will never leave"no you won't ever get to far"
saying that she will never get out of his mind

Ok... So I think the greatest part of this song is the fact that it can be interpretted so many ways and it can be manipulated to fit you. So naturally, I look at this song and I see my boyfriend and me... So since I have the time, let me explain...
"you've got this new head filled up with smoke
and I've got my veins all tangled close
to those jukebox bars you frequent
{they're} the safest place to hide"
*here I see this guy who is feeling something new (love?) and is a little overwhelmed (not saying he doesn't like it). The girl he likes though might be a little afraid and is running (her escape may be music?)
a long night spent with your most obvious weakness
you start shaking at the thought you are everything I want
'cause you are everything I'm not
*her obvious weakness could be them being together... Physically. (you get my dirft?) and then there's that last line (which I absolutely love) that sorta explains it all. They're from two different places... And the guy thinks she is so much better than him, but she's what makes him great. Still with me?
And we lay, we lay together just not
too close, too close (how close is close enough?)
we lay, we lay together just not
too close, too close
*this is pretty simple. They lay together (emotionally) but maybe they're past issues or current apprehensions keep them apart
i just wanna break you down so badly
well I trip over everything you say
i just wanna break you down so badly
in the worst way
*now this caught me off cause I swore he bring, not break (lol) but using break, I guess he wants to understand her so he can close the distance... Using bring (this idea came from a prvious comment. Thanks) he means that because he's below her, he wants to bring her down to his level... Which is the worst way to be with her, but if that's what it takes... (I don't know lol!)
my inarticulate store bought hangover hobby kit, it talks
it says, "you, oh, you are so cool."
scissor shaped across the bed, you are red, violent red
you hollow out my hungry eyes
you hollow out my hungry eyes
*i think this verse is a little sexual (and kinda tricky to understand). ;) (this is another idea I stole) the first line could be about alcohol (which is something the girl may not understand about him) and then it moves on to the girl sprawled on the bed and she's red... Red=passionate, maybe? Moving on... You see with your eyes and maybe when they are together, she takes his ability to see and he's blind (not literally, ofcourse! Lol)
i'm gonna make damn sure that you can't ever leave
no, you won't ever get too far from me
you won't ever get too far from me
i'll make damn sure that you can't ever leave
no, you won't ever get too far from me
you won't ever get too far from me
you won't ever get too far from me
you won't ever get too far...
*quite obvious, eh? He's crazy about her and he won't let there differences get in the way
and randomly, I know this line isn't actually sung/said in the song (I love that about tbs!) we have:
{i bite my tongue. I take my time and}
*he's holding back from her to save there relationship
sorry! I know this was really long, but maybe someone sees it my way... Or can relate to parts!

Huh....Well, what I got from this was kinda different. What I thought was that the song was written about two different people: one was a girl, and the other was a friend. I think it sounds like on friend is basically watching his/her best friend crash and burn (i've got my veins all tangled close to those juke box bars you frequent you're favourite place to hide a long night spent with your most obviouse weakness) sounds like the friend has to keep going out and getting his/her friend, whose drinking themselves to death, while the friend is chasing some girl they don't have a chance with, while the other friend is really forced to just watch the spectical.

Well my inarticulate store bought
hangover hobby kit it talks (talks)
and it says, "you oh, you are so cool"
scissor shaped across the bed
you are red, violent red
you hollow out my hungry eyes
you hollow out my hungry eyes
okay, maybe I'm completely off base, but focusing in on "scissor shaped across the bed/you are red, violent red," has anyone considered that to possibly mean rape? Eveyone agrees this verse seems to be sexual, but "violent" is a pretty strong word choice. "scissor shaped across the bed" would mean her legs are spread apart and "red" would obviously mean blood. Also, it makes perfect sense that "hangover hobby kit" would imply alcohol. Don't a large percentage of rapes involve alcohol? There is an obvious tone of obsession in the song. "it talks (talks)/and it says, 'you oh, you are so cool'" is the alcohol giving him the false impression of consent from the girl. I think he's so determined to have something (relationship?) with this girl that he tries to force it both emotionally and physically. The chorus seems to, in my opinon, go along with that idea. The guy knows what he wants and is so determined to have it that he's forcing it without fully realizing it. "I just want to break you down so badly/in the worst way" his biggest obstacle is her and he wants to break down the barrier she has set up between them.
Anyone at least semi-agree?
