This song is in retaliation to the song by Brand New called "seventy times seven." In both songs, the lyrics contain the same quote "Is this what you call tact? I swear, you're as subtle as a brick in the small of my back
so let's end this call, and end this conversation."

It is said that this was part of a telephone conversation between TBS's John Nolan and Brand New's Jesse Lacey. It all started when John Nolan had sex with his good friend Jesse Lacey's girlfriend. Jesse and John have gotten over it all, and are apparently friends again.

I love it when you get to find out background info on a song you love. See, that's helps me understand the song more. I've always thought that its was to do with friends and love and back-stabbing stuff and how one friend did the other wrong all rolled into one amazing track but could never quite work out the narrative.

This is about the fight between John and Jesse but even with John out of Taking Back Sunday, the feud between Brand New and Taking Back Sunday is still continuing (i.e. The Brand New shirts saying "Microphones are for singing, not swinging"). According to the most recent issue of AP Magazine in an interview with Adam Lazzara, the feud is still strong. This song however is more of an apology from John to Jesse where as the song by Brand New called "Seventy Times 7" is more like giving the lyrical finger to John from Jesse. As far as I know, John and Jesse still are not friends, however I could be wrong.

If you listen to the song, the lyrics are sung back and fourth between Adam Lazarra and John Nolan. This represents jesse lacey from brand new John Nolan in their feud. The title of brand news song "Seventy Times 7" is a statement Jesse's making saying "Theres no way I can forgive you anymore for what you've done" though some people think that its him saying "ill forgive as much as I need to (which would be more accurate to the biblical reference of always forgiving one another)." the title "There's no I in Team" is John's way of saying "I know I messed up but it wasnt just me "I" wasn't the only one"

The similar lyrics "is that what you call tact..." is a statement John Nolan makes in a phone conversation between the two (in Seventy Times 7) Jesse Lacey uses a similar apporch to the lyrics by singing the first line "is that what you call a getaway.." and vincent accardi's (as Nolan) rebuttal with "is that what you call tact..)

As for them playing both songs on tour with each other, I think its just their way of putting differences aside (if only for a little bit) for the greater good...that being Rock n' Roll.

Listen to the song mixtape by Brand New and you should be able to figure out the meaning of the song.
