She's seeing other guys
Emotions they stir

Well, I see it like this: this guy was going out with a girl, but she broke his heart ("my heart is crushed by a former love"). But now, he wants this other girl to help him forget about his lost love ("can you help me find a way to carry on again?", "and so do I to a new love.")
it also seems like he was with his old girlfriend for a long time--- "the notes are old, they bend, they fold."
the lines "did you think that I would cry on the phone? Do you know what it feels like, being alone?" are almost like him saying that being alone is a pain beyond tears.

"days swiftly come and go. I'm dreaming of her.
She's seeing other guys--- emotions they stir.
The sun is gone. The nights are long.
And I am left while the tears fall."

he must really miss her. Those stirring emotions are probably sadness and/or jealousy. "the sun is gone" might be interpreted as 'it's not the same without her.'
sorry if this is really rough or doesn't make sense, it's my first interpretation. Hehe.

Right on. The song uses a solid albeit basic chord pattern to really capture the feeling of the lyrics. An essential song, even for those who hate this style of music

Totally easy: this song is about how this girl broke his heart and he needs to find a way to get over her.

I kind of agree with the first itnerpretation, but with the line "Did you think that I would cry on the phone?" comes a different explanation. I don't think it's pain beyond words. The song, to me, is about saying that the former love crushed me, but now I'm too angry and strong inside to cry about it. So he's sort of mocking the girl there, "Did you seriously think that I was THAT weak?!? PAH!"

Heh, this song literally describes word-for-word what's happened in my life at one point... Anyways, the way I think it works is that this guy just broke up with his girlfriend, and he wants her back although he doesn't show it (I think that the lyrics "Did you think that I would cry on the phone?" are basically a metaphor for saying that he didn't want to show the girl that he missed her).
