Gold on the Ceiling Lyrics
She screams again
Roar at the door
My mind can't take much more
I could never drown in
They wanna get my
They wanna get my
Gold on the ceiling
I ain't blind
Just a matter of time
Before you steal it
It's...

simple fools, its about groupies! now that they are famous, gold digging girls want his "gold on the ceiling" (money) and he is fighting the temptation. also a sign of good lyricists is songs being able to be interpreted many different ways i.e. Bob Dylan

Gold on the ceiling is the spiritual crown on his head. No matter how much he tries to protect it, he realizes that the powers of darkness and money will eventually take his crown away.

Gold on the ceiling is gold at it's high. it's a term. The song most likely means after you get into gold to be financially safe the cabal will take it anyways.

Your gold on the ceiling is your sense of well-being. It's what holds you together, keeps you intact. What's more valuable than that? Those that try to take it away are the people who want to label you, judge you, make you feel they are better than you...take away your sense of "I'm OK/You're OK"...what's left after that?

I get a sense that the Black Keys write songs like this because they want to make you think. You cant call what anyone else thinks wrong or right because you yourself don't know whether you're right or not.
I think this song has everything to do with gold digging, sex, vice, wealth, and being used. I wouldn't count out the allusions to religion either. If the church is misappropriating (misusing) it's wealth , that's got just as much to do with vice as it does with religion. Not to mention "ain't no guard at my house" could refer to the doors of a church and how nobody needs to guard hallowed grounds. -

I try to interpret this song personally. Maybe the singer is a gold digger or saler. He hide all his gold on the ceiling so that no one can see and steal them continously. ;p
He might be a charming and seductive male that can melt any women's heart. Just like a smooth operator. I know that cos i'm fallen for that similar guy recently. He stole my heart forever. I hope someday i'll make him the happiest person alive. Don't get me wrong, its just a song anyways. Enjoy. -

My interpretation of gold on the ceiling is rather adult, meaning not drugs or sex. I think the song is talking about the fact gold keeps rising in value and rising and rising and at some point the commie fascist goberment will swoop in when the going is good and take it all away like they did in the past. It is a statement about what is going on right under our noses.

Oh jeez people.
Okay, This song is so easy. It has nothing to do with religion.
It is about a chick he knows who is depressed, and he starts slipping under, too. And the gold on the ceiling is his happiness. (emotions eating away at the gold, just a matter of time be fore the steal it)
Think about it, religion is totally not it. Even if you think it's "Aint no God in my eye" it is not. It is "Aint no gaurd in my house" meaning he knows what's coming and no one can help it. CHECK IT. :D -

The guys are getting laid at will. They know the girls are gold diggers. The "gold on the ceiling" is what the girls think they are seeing, and pursuing, when they are on their backs. The guys are addicted to the new-found glut of easy pickings. The reference to "ain't no guard in my house" is their invitation to bring it on -we don't plan to try to keep you out. The rest of the song is about knowing that their "indulgences" are not healthy, but they can't help themselves. There is also an undercurrent of cynicism - these women are crazy if they think what
they are giving up in the rack earns them any of these guys' wealth. Bring it on girls; we know what you're after; we'll take it all; addicted to it; we ain't as dumb as we look. -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

Ceiling means an upper limit, meaning they wanna get my gold on the ceiling - to make him pay the most possible. For what? Sounds like for drugs or for any addiction:
Down in the waves
She screams again
Roar at the door
My mind can't take much more
-- sounds like hes have a big craving
I could never drown in
-- he's rationalizing, its ok, I wont drown in my addiction
Ain't no blood in my eye
-- again rationalizing, meaning its no big deal
Clouds covered loves
Barbed-wire fence
-- he sounds trapped, love is allusive, Barbed-wire fence is a metaphor for imprisonment, meaning his life sucks, he has no love, he's chained to his desires
Strung up, strung out
I just can't go without
-- again a reference to addiction
I ain't blind
Just a matter of time
Before you steal it
It's alright
Ain't no guard in my house
-- he knows the reality of this addiction and he knows he cant control it
Really an upbeat song for a sad condition.
Love the song though, great beat! -

It the gold caps in the roof of his mouth. When people die you steal the gold in the ceiling of their mouth.
