This song was written after Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek were at a beach in California and Morrison saw an attractive black girl. He wanted to go over to her, but Manzarek warned against it as the girl was very young. Morrison wrote the song that night, referring to the girl as a 'dusky jewel.'

She is walking down the street, blind to ever eye she meets. This is much deeper than a black chick. This is the chick, mother Earth. The universe, the female that is all truth and beauty dancing on a pin. The goddess of light. Sidewalk crouches at her feet. I'm a dog that begs for SOMETHING SWEET. I'll Trade you anything for everything.
