Okay, I just submitted an interpretation for this song like 4 days ago or so, but know I have a slightly different take on it. I still feel that he stumbled upon a beautiful girl one night, they got together, and split up. Okay, now I feel that with the lyrics, "So take your suitcase 'Cuase I don't mind. And baby doll I meant it everytime" he's telling her to go ahead and leave, but he wants her to know that everytime he told her he loved her, he really meant it. Now, he's telling himself that everything will be alright, while at the same time, knowing that it will not (Doublethink, for my 1984 fans). This, however, really doesn't make any sense to me. That is to say, who in the hell would want to leave Brandon Flowers? Come on.

Taking this interpretation, it gives the song more of a sad, melancholic feel.

Just a note to taggy87: The idea that all the songs are related to Andy, Natalie, Michael and Jenny, is an intriguing concept, but I don't think it holds up very well. Yes, the songs "Jenny Was a Friend of Mine," "Mr. Brightside," and "Midnight Show" do all work together, but other than that, I don't see any connection.
This, I think is the most clear song on the whole album. It's a simple love song. The part about "I never knew to take your suitcase" is sort of ambiguous, but it could be a reference to in the old days, when gentlemen helped out ladies, like taking their suitcases and opening doors for them. He's saying he didn't know how to show politeness to her, and he's somewhat embarrassed that he wasn't acting gentlemanly. Just a guess.

The lyrics are "So take your suitcase" not "to take your suitcase."

I sort of got the idea that the one talking was saying how he had gotten bored with most girls he meets, and he starts seeing how predictable some are (I thought I'd seen them all) and then he unexpectedly meets a girl that just steals his heart. (I wasn't shopping for a doll [lyrics here say "I was out shopping for a doll" which gives the total opposite meaning])
Though I don't understand why he would say what sounds like her leaving him in the next line.

I believe this is about a couple who are both in love and who have had a massive row, she has stormed out with her suitcase. He's cooled off and is all romantic about how they met, fell in love and he's getting ready to go and find her and bring her back again, when he finds her, everything will be all right, everything.

Almost in tears at how beautiful this is and yeah, who would pack and leave Brandon?!!

It's about a couple that had a fight and the guy is afraid that she might decide to break up with him, so he tries to persuade her that it's going to be alright.

Alright guys,here goes...

He's rationalizing with the part of him that feels he needs to respect the girls feelings. She left him so the rational part of the brain is saying move on you won't forget about her. Then his emotions come in saying at least I'll try...cuz we all know after a relationship ends the lovers move on. Then of course he refuses to accept the fact that he is about to lose her and says "and run tonight" as in looking and running after her.
the chorus speaks to the narrator and is at first trying to tell himself everything will be alright he'll get her back
then maybe he Finds her or not either way the next part really says " I WASNT shopping for a doll, to say th least I thought I'd seen them all" this talks about be was a bit jaded in the romance deparment. He wasn'tout and about trying to find a one night stand or arm candy, he thought he understood what love was and wanted no part in it " but then you took me by surprise I'm dreing bout those dreamy eyes" she tool him by surprise and he actually fell for her " I never knew I never knew" he never realized his ideas of love were distorted. "so take your suitcases I don't mind and babydoll I meant it every time"
he's finally realizing what it is to truly love someone he means it when be says he doesn't mind. He knows the eight thing to do is let her leave if he doesn't make her happy also she doesn't feel truly loved by him partially because he is jaded a bit and has emotional baggage so he tells her truly meant every word he said. "you don't need to compromise I'm dreaming bout those dreamy eyes" he's letting her go tellng her she doesn't need to compromise her feelings any longer and even when she's gone he will still love her hence " dreaming. Out those dreamy eyes " then " I never knew I never knew " never realized what it was to love someone and she tought him and that's why its fair for him to let her go " but its alright " trying to pull it together to actually MAE things easier onher and the last chorus ends him comforting her as he let's her go

This entire album has slight undertones of death and murder and over countless times listening to this album I've come to the conclusion that this song is about the death of Natalie or Jenny or some other person and he is at their funeral and all of the family members are telling him that everything will be alright and they keep repeating it. Unfortunately, the whole thing sounds wrong and out of place which explains the strange sound of this song.

I think that after killing Jenny(Jenny was a friend of mine) and after dating Natalie to get over his grief( on top, believe me Natalie) then killing her too(midnight show), Andy is fully consumed by his insanity and keeps repeating to himself "everything will be alright" like a lullaby. He appears to find a mad joy in this, and as he is arrested smiles and seems happy.

The song is simply about a breakup. The guy, however loves this girl because she's different-to say the least I'd thought I'd seen them all, but then you took me by surprise. He doesn't want her to go, but says fine, leave but I care about you so much that I'll follow you just to make everything alright again.

It's about a love that's not okay and someone is looking for something specific and they find the complete opposite and they need someone to take a stand and say it will be alright
