Actually, I believe this song is making fun of the Americans' view of popular music. This song is making fun of how a lot people think listening to unpopular music (indie rock n roll) is cool and how they think that the other people listening to popular music is uncool. Listen to the lines "I'm on drums, she's on tambourine" and "oh don't be shy, let's cause a scene."

He's not actually taking the piss out of the music genre (indie rock and role), he's actually satirising the people who pretend to like this particular music style just because they believe it to be cool to try and fit into this certain stereotype, rather than actually identify with the music.

He could be making fun of indie r 'n r, it's simple. Indie is the absence of scene, thus becoming a scene, making it unliked by its own followers. It just becomes even more indie to make fun of indie.

This song always makes me feel good, and I really think that's what it's about, how good indie rock and roll makes you feel (not that the killers are indie) but lets face it when you find a new indie band that no1 else knows, and you listen to their album and it just makes you feel good, isn't that an amazing feeling? It's really just about the simple things in life like that. GOD BLESS THE KILLERS

I love this song I think it's about two people in a band who rise to fame all of a sudden. The male possibly gets into drugs and drinking etc. and the relationship ends badly. 'lets cause a scene'.
