Mick Jagger wrote this song about David Bowie's ex-wife Angela. She and Mick were having an affair and Mick decided it was time to break it off as not to hurt Bowie, his good friend and rumored lover.

I interpret it as a song Jagger wrote for Bowie suggesting that maybe it's time for Bowiw to end things with his wife Angie because they had a famously rocky relationship

It was absolutley about David Bowies wife anglea, and he was breaking it off without trying to hurt her. David was a great friend to mick they all three very close for about a five years or so but i do beleve the rumors that they were all lovers toghether. Bowie and angie were and sill are very beautiful, ecentric people as is mick jagger. Despite all relationship proplems Bowie and mick continue to stay friends.

Mick Jagger, when asked about Angie, said that this song was written by Keith Richards. So this song is probably about Anita Pallemberg and KR & AP persevering heroin addiction
