Okay I'm a big fan of the used, and I know where bert is coming from... Okay its from the point of view of a diehard fan, trying to fit in with an emo croud, thus cutting themselves, but not wanting to cause they no its pointless (which it is) anyway as someone else said, it is also about his drug abuse and drinking habits, how he dosnt care... but this can also be interperated as bert's anger towards the social status of "Normal" and "Popular" and "Cool" people, and how they are nothing special, but after all this is just one interperatation, I hope you can all find your own meanings, because songs arnt always about one thing, there is more than meets the eye;)

I understand the intro to be saying how pointless and stupid cutting is and how it dosent solve anything. "This is my sad selfish cry out to the cutter, Im cutting to try and picture you black broken heart, but LOVE IS NOT LIKE ANYTHING ESPECIALLY A FUCKING KNIFE!"

Well, obviously this song is a bout being fake. I think it is about pretending to be the perfect person even though you're not. In the song, the person drank and did drugs and was depressed but changed and pretented to be perfect to fit in with everyone else. I think the person is struggling to hide beneath the perfect person they have become and id sick of being someone they are not.

some people are so dumb.
its very obviously about pretending to be someone your not. He pretends to be happy when he's really just a fake. It's completly revealing and beautiful and a bunch of fucking tards have to turn it into a catagory. It's not emo just because he mentions cutting. It's a guy that is sick of trying. There's no better song, in my opinion.

"Okay its from the point of view of a diehard fan, trying to fit in with an emo croud, thus cutting themselves, but not wanting to cause they no its pointless (which it is)"
fuck you. cutting is not pointless. when people cut themselves, it releases beta endorphins in the brain, which mask the physical and emotional pain the person is feeling. In other words, people that cut themselves have unbearable feelings, and when they cut, they feel better. The endophins are addictive, which is why people cut themselves over a long period of time. I would know this, I used to cut myself (before I got caught and sent to a psychologist). For me, cutting was the only way I could handle my emotions. Definitely not 'pointless'.

The song is just about trying to be what everyone wants, everyone is supposed to be perfect and "clean", it's not that hard to get that from the song. Unless there is a hidden meaning that none of us get. Also, I've been cutting for three years, it's got nothing to do with emo or wanting to fit in with The Used fans. The main reason is because your sad and it doesn't help when morons automatically make fun of you and say your emo for doing it.

I believe that the song is about contradicting everything to the point of contradicting yourself. "Small, simple, safe price" means how easy it is to be what American culture tells you to be. He'd rather take the road less traveled even though it hurts than. Most people are fake, because it's easy. To truly be an individual sometimes one has no other choice than to do nothing but endure.

I think this song is meant to have many meanings. How about he wants attention so he's pretending to be something he isn't "Just look at me now"? It could be about people chanting who they are trying to fit in with everyone else, and it hurts to do this and they start to feel like they would rather die then have nobody see who they really are. Another could be the whole staying clean and away from drugs is driving them insane. Or he's looking for away to let his feelings or emotions out "do I drink, do I cut?". I'm not to good about reading songs, but I definitely know it makes me feel so much better to let myself out screaming to.

In the intro. when he says "Love is not like anything, especially a fucking knife." I think it means that love can hurt worse and damage you more than the blade of a knife. And this song seems like it's about a cutter whose pain was caused by years of trying to pretend you're someone else and pretending that you're confident in everything that you do and pretending that nothing's wrong. Even though everything is wrong.

IMO this song is mainly about cutting, but I think the lyrics are supposed to have more emotional meaning than logical meaning. He's just throwing them everywhere and it really fits with the vocals. If you read the poem at the beginning carefully, every line is about or describing the act of cutting. Some of it talks about the feelings you get from cutting, which is also why I think this song is more of a "feeling song" than a "thinking song".

It seems that the rest of the song describes the common stresses, cutting, and not only trying to fit in but also caring too much about what people think of you. I get this from the way he screams lyrics almost nonsensically. Overemphasizing things like being clean and dry, looking a certain way, drinking, dating, and looking a certain way in front of everyone else... It makes me feel like he's fed up with doing all of these things to look a certain way, and realizes that he's a fake

meh, I just love this song.

Look at me.
You can tell,
By the way I move and do my hair
Do you think that it's me,
Or it's not me?
I don't even care.
I'm alive, I don't smell.
I'm the cleanest I have ever been.

I feel big, I feel tall, I feel dry.
Dry.
Just look at me, look at me now.
I'm a fake, I'm a fake, I'm a fake, I'm a fake.
Just look at me, look at me now.
I'm a fake, I'm a fake, I'm a fake, I'm a fake.

Do I drink?
Do I date?
I've got perfect placements.
All my ink
Satisfied, in your eyes.
I'm the biggest fan I've got right now.
I made sure I looked how I wanted to look.
The people around me,
The people surround me.

Just look at me now.
I'm a fake, I'm a fake.
Just look at me now.
I'm a fake, I'm a fake.

My stomach hurts now,
All tied off in lace.
I pray, beg, for anything to hit me in the face.
And this sickness isn't me.
And I pray to fall from grace.
The last thing I see is feeling.

And I'm telling you I'm a fake,
I'm telling you I'm a fake. (x3)

Just look at me, look at me now.
I'm a fake, I'm a fake, I'm a fake, I'm a fake.
Just look at me, look at me now.
I'm a fake, I'm a fake, I'm a fake, I'm a fake

I don't know if its supposed to be or not but the intro to the song makes Bert seem like a total hypocrite. He says that cutting is pointless and is no way to deal with your emotions but this coming from the guy that spends so much of his life drinking and doing drugs. I have nothing against the Bert and I love the band, I even love the song, I just think that it was wrong of him to say it

Yes this song is about cutting and being fake, obviously. He is talking about how he tries to hide the cutting and drugs and all of it, and show people that he is normal. after awhile it kills him, and he just comes out and says IM A FAKE.

Although this song has many interpretations it seems to me like this has two meanings. The first is obvious from the title, that he is looking at his own life and feels like he has been living as others want him to live, or at least pretending to live that way. The other meaning can be thought of as getting over any addiction. I'll break down the verses so it makes sense.
Look at me.
You can tell,
By the way I move and do my hair
Do you think that it's me,
Or it's not me?
I don't even care.
I'm alive, I don't smell.
I'm the cleanest I have ever been.
This verse an addict is looking at themselves and trying to view his life after an addiction. "I don't even care.
I'm alive, I don't smell.I'm the cleanest I have ever been." the still alive, after fighting addiction, losing the craving is that he can't smell, and being sober is the cleanest I'm the ever been.
The dry is also being sober, and the addiction is what is the "fake".
Do I drink?
Do I date?
I've got perfect placements.
All my ink
Satisfied, in your eyes.
I'm the biggest fan I've got right now.
I made sure I looked how I wanted to look.
The people around me,
The people surround me.
The "do I drink, do I date" is things that were lost when addicted. Perfect placements all my ink, is about being burned out on drugs, not needing them anymore. The last portion is about taking control of your life, not caring what others think of who you were.
"I feel big, I feel tall, I feel dry. dry." Again seeing a self accomplishment, and remaining sober.

This verse is about a potential relapse, the stomach hurts, is about having a craving for a drug, and wanting to be hit in the face is to come to senses.

This is just my view on the song. Can be right can be wrong, but I gave you my reasons why I think of it this way.
