I think this song is just meant to be poetic, notice the insignificance of the title to the lyric?

I don't think even The Used may crack the meaning to the song.

Well its very hard to tell with this song , definitely hard because there are so many mixed messages.

In my opinion, it's singing about meth because of the slang word blue , also gay sex, because he's singing bout turning some guy over. But put the two together when your no meth it gives a really big high and he's singing bout rooms getting bigger and getting confused in sex , maybe the guy is laughing and (the smile part) while he's on drugs(blue) and the guy doesn't no he's on the drugs(when I mention blue all you thought was colour) probably not but that's one way of seeing it

i think it's about drugs and the things that you think, feel and see while on drugs like a song written while experiencing them

I agree with most of the interpretations here, however I still don't get why the songs says about killing too? kill/smile?

Man, I love this song! (listening to it now) after reading other interpretations and dozens of cd reviews I think I kinda got an idea of the song. first let me say that I'm not familiar with any of the people in the used. what I've picked up is that the lead is bi, marrying a girl and had relationship with gerrard of mcr. If any of that's false SORRY!

Anyway... from the get go I felt this song had strong sexual overtones, I just never thought gay... The more I read and listen the more I can see that. So it's starts of with time slowing down and the enevitable (sex) coming. being that I'm a girl from nowhereville I honestly have never heard of meth referred to as "blue" but it makes soooo much sense. So it seems one of the guys doesn't know much about the drugs or is unexperienced. So it's def about sex, the act and the climax, it's so obvious: "When your pants came off and I turned you over", "Get it up in time", "Spill the filled up canister And the room is shaking", "my breathing races" just to mention a few. what confuses me a little is the kill/smile, but that's my favorite part of the song. It seems a little violent yet satisfying. So... That's what I got from it.

I'm pretty sure this song is about drugs and what you feel like when your on them.

-- When the shirt came off, it was all in time
When a minute turned into a mile --

Apparently they are so drugged up, that everything is mechanic. Routine. All they seem to do together is drugs and have sex.

-- And then I broke that grin, and I cut it out
And you got all turned on by the taste of your sin
When I mention blue, all you thought was color
When you mention drugs, all I thought was sober
When your pants came off and I turned you over
When you mention blue --

It seems like he's wanting more out of life, but being with someone who is also into drugs doesn't help at all. Its hard to escape out of that life once your in it.

Plus, Bert isn't gay. He had a girlfriend who was pregnant with his child. She committed suicide and killed the baby in the process. A lot of their songs reflect this. Try listening to "All That I've Got" and "Hard to Say". They are about her.

-- Kill, smile, cut it out for me this time
Smile, haven't seen him smile in a little while --

He isn't happy with his situation anymore. He's tired of the constant drugs and sex.

-- Keep the mask aligned
Get it up in time
There's a space between valleys
and try and catch a vibe --

He's trying not to let on what he's feeling, cause he's scared she might leave him, and he's too familiar with the world he's in... even though he wants to let go of it.

-- Make a circle square, a rectangle curve
Use a smile as a noun and I think like a verb
Run quick switch sides
Spill the filled up canister
And the room is shaking
Now you're changing places,
and I switched my pace,
and my breathing races when you mention blue --

It seems like, she's starting to understand where he's coming from. He's seeing hope in this. His breathing races when she mentions blue... cause he's starting to think that she's finally understanding where he's coming from. That maybe it'll work out after all.

Well, that's just my interpretation!!

Okay, whoever said that Bert and Gerard dated, that is not true. I don't know if you've ever noticed but they both said that they didn't date. And I don't think Gerard is Bi, I figure he would have said something by now after calling off his engagement he said that maybe his engagement gave people closure on that subject. & I dk about Bert's sexual orientation, but I've only seen him with girls, but he still may be bi. And as for my interpretation of the song, I do think it's about wanted to leave behind what you know because what you know isn't making you happy; It's pretty much Sex, drugs and rock'n'roll. I don't think it's gay sex though, when he says "& I turned you over" that may not mean on their back. & when he says "I haven't seen him smile in a little while" he may be talking about someone else he knows who's living like he is, or referring to himself in 3rd person, maybe. But that's just my interperatation.

I think this song is about not being able to feel or not being able to control feelings. The part that says "when I mention blue. all I thought was color" I think refers to feeling blue (I have seen the color blue related to love in a lot of songs/writing etc.) but he doesn't see blue as a feeling he just sees it as color, and when he says "when you mention drugs all I thought was sober" I think that also shows that he thinks of drugs and gets no feeling.

Then it says kill smile cut it out for me, haven't seen him smile in a while.

Because it's talking about killing and being able to smile afterwards, which shows no feeling or at least the wrong feelings. When it says haven't seen his smile in a while is because he can't feel so there is nothing to make him smile.

The part about circle squares and rectangle curbs suggest that he can't get his thoughts and feelings straight..he feels the opposite of wat it should be...
thats why he can kill and instead of feeling bad..smiling...

The part that describes the room and the canister is confusion. The room seems shaky and everything seems to be out of order and when he hears blue(love) he gets nervous because he doesn't know what its gonna feel like

Ehh anyway that's my opinion. This is my favorite song from the used just because I'm never 100 percent sure of its meaning. When I think I have it all of the sudden I realize new things in the song.

Seriously, it's about sex.

Bert doesn't hide what he means when he writes behind metaphors, he just doesn't. He says it plain and simple but uses odd descriptive language. Okay, he does use metaphors, but I don't think he did when writing this song. I think it's about crystal meth(Because most who know his history know he battled an addiction with crystal meth), and how being on it might have impaired his judgment and caused him to do something sexual with a friend, and afterwards, they are somewhat at odds.
-haven't seen him smile in awhile-

I really strongly think this song's about gay sex. That doesn't meant Bert's gay, it just means he was curious when he wrote it. I don't even think he's bi, to be honest. I don't think Quinn, or Gerard are either (though this shouldn't have ANYTHING to do with Gerard).

They didn't have a fucking relationship. They kissed, a lot. So fucking what? everyone kisses. Te lyrics are really fucking different and confusing thats why it's so good.

When I first heard it, I thought 'real quick, switch sides etc.......they're changing places.' was the easiest part to get.
sex. SEX. SEX! duhhhh. well, yeah.

Anyways, this shouldnt change how anyone feels about the used. They're the fucking best band ever, and that's that.

The kill / smile part
it has to do with climax
kill = when a chick reaches orgasm it used to be believed because of all the screaming and sounds she will say during sexual intercourse that she was getting killed temporarily.
smile is the feeling you get after.
havent you read romeo and juliet?
i shall "kill" you with most cherish

I have no idea if this is right or not, but I think this song is about innocence, drugs, and sex. I got innocence from the idea that:
"And you got all turned on by the taste of your sin"
'you' gets excited by doing something sinful or wrong.

"When I mention blue, all you thought was color"
'you' doesn't realize he means meth, but just the color, which shows innocence.

"When you mention drugs, all I thought was sober
When your pants came off and I turned you over
When you mention blue"
and he is trying to stop with the drugs by using sex as a way out

Okay uhhm that's definitely about fucking a dude. I don't know who but I do know that Bert is bisexual so it's not shocking. In fact he and Gerard were together.

I think this is about someone finding a tattoo of meth (blue. That's how it got the nickname. People would have a blue tattoo most of the time meaning meth) on someone while they were having sex. Strictly my opinion.

Here's what I think, its not about drugs, its kind of about sex but its also about finding out that his girlfriend is pregnant. The color blue, means positive when taking a pregnancy test "when you mentioned drugs all I thought was sober" she was a drug addict and he wanted the both of them to no longer be on drugs, "and I turned you over when you mentioned blue" maybe he didn't want the baby so her flipped her on her stomach in an attempt to kill the baby, "kill, smile, cut it our for me this time" kill the baby, or cut it out, and he's smiling cause he's happy cause there's no baby now. all of this may sound sick but it is a possibility

It sounds like a drug addict who's trying to stop. He's having sex because it makes him stop thinking about drugs. The whole kill, cut it out part is about killing the memories and thoughts, cutting them out of his brain. When he says "When you mentioned drugs, all I thought was sober", it shows that he's not on the drug at the moment, he's sober and trying to stay that way. The withdrawals are making a minute seem like a mile though.

I would certainly say it would have something to do with being gay, or at least bi. The Lyrics:

"Make a circle square, a rectangle curve"

Are the ones that stick out to me the most as being "Gay" and the double conception of "Blue" is trying to make it seem less so. I have heard some things that Bert is bisexual so I don't doubt that it is about having sex with another man.

Gay sex all the way.
I've never heard of "blue" meaning meth, so I'm gonna have to use the UK expression and say "blue" meaning "rude" (as in "colourful language" a "blue film" is a porno or a film with sex in it).
Although I think mentioning "blew" might give more to the sex interpretation (ie blow job).
"keep the mask aligned" condom?
"get it up in time" how very crude
"spill the filled up canister" again, very crude
"and the room is shaking"- the confusion of sex
"changing places" topping and bottoming?
