Kit Lambert told Pete that he needed to fill in about 10 minutes on the album and suggested that he make one huge song. Pete thought he was crazy, but he followed through Kit's suggestion and made it a story. This provided the foundation to the idea of making a rock opera..TOMMY! Tommy kicks ass.

Anyway, check out The Who performing this in The Kids Are Alright and in the Rolling Stones Rock n Roll Circus. The Who were cut from the airing of the Rolling Stones thing because they were so good that they completely upstaged the Rolling Stones. Keith Moon (RIP) is the greatest drummer that ever lived.
