"Another Life" is the hidden track on Out of the Vein. It tells the tale of someone deeply troubled by the world, thinking of killing himself in search of the other life he imagines.

It is not so much the world, as he implies, but his mind that is his adversary. He shuts himself away from the world but "silence brings no peace" because his thoughts pursue him.

Later in the song, he has relapses and thinks perhaps there is something worth living for. But he feels that his mind has already given up hope, as much as you try to help him, and his time is slipping away.

Like many good songs, its true meaning is hinted at throughout the song and then revealed at the end. "The Golden Gate is like my diving board/and life is pointless..." He leaves this world in search of another life.
