To me, I find this song is about how a person can fail god so many times and still be covered in 'monuments of grace' that comes from him. There is beauty in a love so forgiving and perfect. I think it's almost a song of frustration as well at how much we fail at following god. Good thing it's not because of our own acts that we are saved, but that jesus died for us all so we could have eternal life. We are not saved through acts but by faith.
