When I was a teen, back in the 80s, I heard a snappy tune on college radio with the lyrics where the alphabet starts with z. Years later, by googling those lyrics, I learn that this great song was twist
by tones on tail.

Slap me sideways and call me carlos if it doesn't sound like it's about superman

"as tomorrow's man"
the famous superhero was sometimes billed as the man of tomorrow
"and a topless bee"
bees are hurtful creatures with their sting. Lex luthor is sometimes
represented as bald (his head is "topless") and he is sadistic. Therefore, the "topless bee" is lex luthor
"jump over your head,"
superman leaped (tall buildings usually, but he could leap over someone's head, I suppose)
remember me
don't get confused by a
"dying sky and sea"
krypton blowing up

"the panda club has an odds on bet"
maybe a reference to a betting parlor or gambling casino in hob's bay (suicide slum)
mr. Music man needs a string quartet
"on the planet where the alphabet starts with z"
the planet where the alphabet starts with z? That would be bizarro world, where everything is in reverse

"energy and confidence
buzz high in your consciousness"
superman is aware of his powers even in clark kent mode

don't get confused by an early morning rain
cause the panda club has an odds on bet
mr. Music man needs a string quartet
on the planet where the alphabet starts with z

therefore, twist could be a song about pop culture's best known and handsomest fantasy superhero.
