I believe this song is about two people who love each other, but because of certain circumstances, can't be together. But just because they are apart from each other they will always love the each other - even if the distance between them is great.

The song is perfect for a couple breaking up to say, " Goodbye, farewell and amen." Neither will say or even think anything bad about the other, something is forcing them apart and they can't be together anymore. They'd like to be, but can't .

I love Dolly Parton. She’s the best woman I’ve met, because I saw Shaina Twain’s concert at Chicago, I was there. Dolly was up there, and everytime you need to go the record company. They’ll bring dolly, and Shaina to me. Because they’re my girls, they’re my younger sisters, I celebrated their birthday with them!

While planning my mothers funeral, this song choice came up. It was one of my mothers favorite songs, but the words when sung from her (my mother) perspective took on a new meaning....because she killed herself. When you pay attention to the words it's actually fitting. Hmmmm, something to think about....

The girl saying that no matter what, she'll always love him. Eventho he's losing his mind and go for revenge on her.

But the way she see things, he never loved her actually. He's just using her for unknown reasons. But, she will always love him and truly cares about him..She wants him to be the best in everything. He's kinda shadow that never fade wherever she goes and that hurts her so much.

The song was originally written and performed by Dolly parton, not by Whitney Houston.

When Dolly was a young, up and coming country singer, she got her first big break from an older, established country star named Porter Waggoner. Dolly worked and sang with Porter Waggoner for several years before deciding it was time to move on as a solo artist.

She wrote the song NOT as a love ballad or even as a romantic breakup song (Porter Waggoner was Dolly's mentor, not her lover). It's a song expressing love and gratitude to someone who meant a lot to her, even though she know it's time to move on.

But it IS true that this is a song about two people going their separate ways forever- which is why I'm always amused when people choose this as their wdding song.

I think it means that she's leaving a man, because she feels like he'll be better without her. And that she'll be better off as well. But she'll always love him no matter what happens. No matter where they end up, no matter if they find other people. She'll always love him.
