Rumour Has It Lyrics

She, she ain't real,
She ain't gonna be able to love you like I will,
She is a stranger,
You and I have history,
Or don't you remember?
Sure, she's got it all,
But, baby, is that really what you want?

Bless your soul, you've got...

    *"She, she ain't real,
She ain't gonna be able to love you like I will,"

It means that she is telling the boy she is fake

    *"She is a stranger,
    You and I have history,
    Or don't you remember?"

It means Adele's saying she is no one to him and Adele and the boy have got history of love but asking whether he forgot or not.

    *"Sure, she's got it all,
But, baby, is that really what you want? "

She is saying that she may have got everything in her but questioning whether he wants that or not.

*"Bless your soul, you've got your head in the clouds,
She made a fool out of you,
And, boy, she's bringing you down,"

She is saying the boy is not concentrating much and the girl made a fool out of him by bring the relationship to an end.

    *"She made your heart melt,
But you're cold to the core,
Now rumour has it she ain't got your love anymore,"

It means that she succeeded in getting him but he is still doubting so she no longer getting his love.

    *"Rumour has it, ooh,
    Rumour has it, ooh,
    Rumour has it, ooh,
    Rumour has it, ooh,
    Rumour has it, rumour,
    Rumour has it, rumour,
    Rumour has it, rumour,
    Rumour has it, rumour,"

She is saying that rumour has everything.

    *"She is half your age,
But I'm guessing that's the reason that you strayed,"

She is very young for his age but is again asking him why he fell in love with her.

*"I heard you've been missing me,
You've been telling people things you shouldn't be,"

The boy clearly misses her but is telling everyone their secrets

*"Like when we creep out and she ain't around,
    Haven't you heard the rumours?"

They go outside like a date when she is least doubting them and asks the boy whether he has been hearing rumours about their relationship.

*"Bless your soul, you've got your head in the clouds,
You made a fool out of me,
And, boy, you're bringing me down,"

Now Adele's asking the girl she is confused and she made her a fool and succeeded in bringing her down (embarrassed her).

*"You made my heart melt, yet I'm cold to the core,
But rumour has it I'm the one you're leaving her for,"

She made her heart melt but still Adele's beyond doubt...She is now asking the boy to leave the other girl so that they can be in a relationship again.

    *"Rumour has it, ooh,
    Rumour has it, ooh,
    Rumour has it, ooh,
    Rumour has it, ooh,
    Rumour has it, rumour,
    Rumour has it, rumour,
    Rumour has it, rumour,
    Rumour has it, rumour,"

    Rumour has everything!

"All of these words whispered in my ear,
Tell a story that I cannot bear to hear,
Just 'cause I said it, it don't mean that I meant it,
    People say crazy things,
Just 'cause I said it, don't that mean I meant it,
    Just 'cause you heard it,"

It means that the stories told to her are all nonsense and she cannot bear to listen to it. Just because she said it did not meant she really meant it. People say crazy things about her and that the boy heard it and started to disbelieve Adele. Adele then loses confidence in him as said in the last line.

    *"Rumour has it, ooh,
    Rumour has it, ooh,
    Rumour has it, ooh,
    Rumour has it, ooh,
    Rumour has it, rumour,
    Rumour has it, rumour,
    Rumour has it, rumour,
    Rumour has it, rumour,
    Rumour has it, ooh,
    Rumour has it, ooh,
    Rumour has it, ooh,
    Rumour has it, ooh,
    Rumour has it, rumour,
    Rumour has it, rumour,"

    Rumour has everything!

*"But rumour has it he's the one I'm leaving you for"
It means that Adele's leaving the boy to continue the relationship of him with another girl.

Rumour Has It is a song about the bad things that rumors can do to a relationship. Adele, along with telling a story, is trying to tell her fans about the damage gossip and rumours have done in the past.

I think that Adele is saying a boy that she has known for years, whether in love life, or friendship, finds a girl who may only want to use him. She is half his age, probably looking for "sleeping" and nothing else. Adele wishes to protect her loved one from harm, while everyone is making up stories of their own about her.

    ** It's a song of Revenge---**
Along the lines of "Turning Tables"
The couple is having relationship problems. Each has their own circle of friends they speak to in confidence about the troubles. It turns into a cycle of "did you hear about(so-and-so)". The guy meets another, younger girl and has an affair. Thru the Rumormill, the woman gets this information, confronts the man ,ultimatly the couple splits-up and the man leaves her for the other girl. LYRICK-(Rumor has it,she's the one you're leaving me for). While in his new relationship, he realizes he still has feelings for the woman he left, he tells her he wants to be with her, she tells him even tho he hurt her & broke her heart she still loves him ,forgives him for leaving her and they secretly start seeing each other again. She reminds him of the love they shared and everything they once had and they rekindle their relationship. Thus, the Rumors start flying again that this couple is getting back together. LYRICK-(Rumor has it,I'm the one you're leaving her for). Finally, She wins him back. The couple is reunited and he's more in-love with her than ever before, positive that she's the one he belongs with for the rest of his life. Only , one thing he didn't know was when he was gone, having a fling with someone else and going on with his life..She was left to pick up the pieces and move on aswel..she began seeing someone too. Someone that was there for her when he wasn't, someone to hold her when she cryed, someoneone that seemed to take her pain away and comfort her. She often spoke of the feelings she had for the new man in her life. Altho she won the heart of her first love back. Rumors once again spread.... To get him back she makes him believe they belong together, she still loves him, forgives him. LYRICK-(jus 'cause I said it,don't mean I meant it) In actuallity she had no real feelings of love for him at all, where once he melted her heart, (when he left) turned her cold , uncaring and bitter toward him. -THE TWIST- She wanted to show him what it was like to loose, to hurt and to be left alone and empty. The one that was by her side in her hours of dispare was the one she loved and truley wanted to be with. LYRICK-(Rumor has it, he's the one I'm leaving you for).----Moral of the Story----Hell Hath No Fury as A Woman Scorned :))**

How I interpret the song is that the singer and the man used to have a romantic relationship that fell apart when the man left the singer for a much younger woman.

The current rumors have it that:
    1) the man, after the first flush of lust/love had faded, no longer loves the younger woman;
    2) the man is missing his former lover (the singer) and that they sneak out at night to be together, particularly when the younger woman isn't around; and
    3) the man is leaving the younger woman and returning to the arms of his former lover the singer).

The younger woman had made a fool out of the man by getting him to fall in love with her and getting him to stray from (i.e. cheat on) his former lover. And the man made a fool of the singer by betraying her trust, by being unfaithful to her, and by leaving her for a younger woman.

I believe the singer herself is the one responsible for spreading the rumors. This is indicated by the lyrics "Just 'cause I said it, don't mean that I meant it. People say crazy things." She may have spread the rumors during a time when she was "crazy" hurting. She also sings that "All of these words whispered in my ear tell a story that I cannot bear to hear." She couldn't bear to hear these particular rumors because she knows that they aren't true and that the man is not leaving the younger woman and returning to her.

It is about her own friends that they just go along with the rumors about her.

Okay, a correction on my earlier post- apparently Adele is drawing on her personal experience in the penning of this song- though perhaps not literally.

Is Adele hereself the voice of the song? Or could it be a persona for the song? Did Adele even write this herself given that the credits on the album list other writers, which is why I say the 'voice' or 'speaker' of the song.

This song seems pretty straightforward and literal, but (paradoxically) the subject of it is inuendo and rumour.

The voice of the song is the mistress of someone who seemingly has strung them along promising to leave their wife so that they could officially be together and this love rat seems to only be coming good with his promises when his younger wife doesn't want him anymore (the 'creeping around' and 'half your age' 'she ain't got your love no more' suggest this). But, the voice of the song is sick of being second best and having to sneak around and feels used (and is not happy about the love rat blabbing to others about his exploits).

In the end the voice of the song appropriates the rumour mill to turn the tables on her love rat by leaving him 'rumour has it he's the one I'm leaving you for'.
