At a Glance Lyrics

No haven now as I watch it pour from everywhere.
Just like the storm that has come out of thin air.
Gentle caresses, just as paper thin -frail and only- lack the strength to hold.
What if could go to sleep for days, would you count the...

This song is about how the only shelter you can find is deep down inside yourself. "No haven now as I watch it pour from everywhere" is saying how as life goes on around you, there will not always be someone to help you. Only yourself."Lack the strength to hold" is saying that all the people that try to help you just don't have the strength you have or the confidence. "What if I could go to sleep for days, would you count the hours?" is saying that if you were to go away for a while, would the person helping you not even care, or would they sit around thinking about you("or would your restlessness consume fading memories of me?") "Fall into open arms that offer their protection, quick to deny that they're open to deceit". Normally when someone is willing to help a person they say I'm always here for you, or I have open arms. Well, those people with open arms are the ones that say they won't deceit you, they won't lie to you, they won't hurt you, etc. So, that means that they probably will because they deny it so quickly. So you have to fall into yourself because you know if you're not lying to yourself. "long to believe support will never cease" is saying how they believe they will always be there no matter what, and they will always support you. "Bitter and lonely. Those they've left before". This is saying that the people that were helped before by the people that are helping you are bitter and lonely because they left them. "The vibrant heart, so quickly growing old" is saying that the people helping you have such a nice heart, but then it becomes old as you realize how they're helping you. "The warmest eyes, so quickly growing old" is saying that those eyes of the people helping you turn cold and evil after they looked so welcoming. So basically, you have to rely on yourself because there won't always be someone there for you.

I have my own personal ideas about what this song "means", but I'm posting here to recommend that you check out the Uncyclopedia entry for AFI(If you are an ardent AFI fan with a sense of humour. If you have no sense of humour it will only piss you off). The "interpretation" of At A Glances' purpose is hilarious.
