Becoming the Bull Lyrics

Grab the bull by the horns the old adage goes.
Nobody tells you where to go from there.
Seems like fate's pulling you.
Decisions have to be made.
The best path is the hardest earned.

Back and forth the struggle consumes us all.

"Grab the bull by the horns
    The old adage goes"

The adage I believe may be grab life by the horns ( yes I know this is the dodge motto..) and so the bull is life.

Nobody tells you where to go from there
    Seems like fate‚s pulling you

Well, there isn't anymore after people say grab life by the horns so no one does tell you where to go, your in control its your destination, but by grabbing the bull/life it is pulling you ( just like grabbing a bull in real life might pull you) this pull is interpreted as fate, the narrator seems to be trying to control his life and not let fate guide it.

    Decisions have to be made
The best path is the hardest earned

The decision is to do what he wants in life, and it generally holds true in life that the path that is best for a person is usually the hardest one, requiring more effort, making it the hardest earned, like entering the workforce with a GED instead of a college degree.

Back and forth a struggle consumes us all
Trying to keep a level head

this part is about trying to keep focus and staying calm while trying to force your life to go in the direction you want because it is a struggle ( like trying to make a bull go where you want, not where it wants.)

In the most unsettling of times

Lots of changes happening, I related this song to this moment in life as I am getting ready to head off to college and I am forced to make many decisions that will change every aspect of my life

    Today I become the bull

the narrator is going to take control of their life, they are the bull and can choose where their life will go.

There is so much at stake
I stumble I lose my place

pretty self explanatory there, one mistake and you can lose it all

Pride and arrogance surrounded by sin

this possibly refers to sins he has to commit because of his pride and arrogence and sin caused by making the ends come together because making happen what you want to happen might need that at times.

    Destiny takes its hold
Fight it or let it go
But I chose how today will end

he has control of the bull but it is still an animal and if not controlled it will do what it wants, the bull still symbolizes fate which in this case is synonymous with destiny.

fight it or let it go, either take charge of your life, which is what the song is about, or succumb to your fate/destiny, the person decides to fight it.

    This walk
    Can get lonely

its about going on his own path, doing what he wants and not what mainstream society may be doing or expecting of him and he may see the societal pressures as fate as well, I think anything that isn't what the narrator(writer, who ever..) wants to do is considered fate, if they didn't pick to do it then it is fate/destiny.

I lose myself inside my head

The struggle and its stress and trying to make all the right decisions keeps him thinking

No one can touch you when
    You‚re outside staring in
Remove myself from this rat race

he is apart from society I guess in that he is taking control of his life and he sees society as a rat race
rat race : a way of life in which people are caught up in a fiercely competitive struggle for wealth or power.

at this point it seems as though he has sufficiently taken control of this life, and by being ready to remove himself from his rat race he his ready to relax and he now has his life going in the direction he wants and no longer has to fight it.

    * all the he's and such are just referring to whom ever the song refers to which I would believe to be the writer. Also, sorry if it is a little hard to follow, its my first time trying to do this lyric by lyric..
