Let It Be Lyrics

When I find myself in times of trouble, mother Mary comes to me,
speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me,
speaking words of wisdom, let it be.

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let...

I liked the mother mary jane theory. =]
and something I didn't like was when someone said that "only one person is right, there's only one meaning"...thats not true...the beauty of music and especially the beatles is how it enables you to think and interpret the lyrics how you want.

Yeah F.T.R whoever you are. You're an idiot, McArtney's Father wasn't named Mary, his mother on the other hand....

Lennon is talking about mother mary of christ. The song represents when something bad happens in your life, there is nothing you can do about it. Let the situation sit. Things will get better and I don't think anyone can into John Lennon's head and find out the whole Mother Mary thing. The message that John Lennon is trying to get across is let it be. Don't fight or read into things too far. This song was not written for people to hang on every lyric. The words LET IT BE get the point across just fine.

I think it is important to think about the historical time period when the song was written. I think the lyrics "let it be" can be applied to the belief of the counter culture (hippies) that if one leaves conflict alone, the result is peace, love, and harmony. This referring to the war in Vietnam. I don't want to offend major Beatles fans or anything. The Mother Mary may be Paul's mom. But I think a song may have more then one meaning and certainly more then one interpretation.

Isn't this song really about Mother Maria Sabina, famous mexican and traditional healer? Her practice was based on the use of the various species of native psilocybe mushrooms. It is rumored, that many important 60s celebrities visited Maria Sabina, including rock stars such as Bob Dylan and John Lennon...

I believe that 2007-01-31 18:24:41 is right... We need to get the facts straight and listen to what Paul has to say. Many people have different ideas and some of them contradict others. The truth of the matter is that we need to be listening and not arguing. We just need to get our attitude adjusted, listen up and "Let It Be." The song was written for application purpose. Just leave it.

I heard somewhere that Paul had a dream and in his dream his mother "mary" came to him and spoke words of wisdom. I'm not sure if its true but it does totally fit the lyrics.

I think you are all crazy. They were a bunch of drug addicts. In my opinion, which is probably fact, Mother Mary is Mary Jane. Pot. They were a bunch of potheads.

"When I find myself in times of trouble "mother mary" comes to me, speaking words of wisdom"" Don't all potheads speak "deep" when they are high????

DUH!! It was the druggie age! Do the math!

Ok, I love this song, and I love it for the one reason that it DOESNT have any "hidden meaning" or "special reasons" its just an ambiguous song telling people to cheer up, get on with there lives, don't worry that... ya dogs died, or your girlfriend has left you, what ever, just LET IT BE! and things will be ok. I think trying to reed to far into this will spoil it and stop it from been a globaly "feel good" kinda thing. As for the "mother Mary" bit, I just interpret that as been a symbol of someone loving to look after you and cheer you up, a "mother" figure to tell you it will all be ok.

If you listen to it with headphones on, at 1:07 I do hear a muffled sound from the right speaker, but I would hardly call it a voice, and about that whole "stinky feet" thing, was that guy attempting to make a joke? It wasn't very funny, and obviously not true.

No, nothing. By the way, all of these interpretation (right or wrong, or stupid) are why the Beatles are so great...It's all about ambiguity, because no matter what the actual song meant, it means different things to different people

Hi guys :) ok well my dad's been a Beatles fan for all his life, he grew up with them, it was his generation. Paul McCartney didn't write the song - it was John Lennon, as most beatles fans should know, John wrote a lot of the songs, and Paul McCartney simply added lyrics. The song is about religion, believing or not believing, just "let it be"??? Btw, if anyone want's to disagree or get all arrogant in there comments back at me, then get a life. Laters.....
