And Then There Was Silence Lyrics

Turn your head and see the fields of flames

He carries along
From a distant place
He's on his way
He'll bring decay
(don't move along cause things they will go wrong
the end is getting closer day by day)
in shades of grey
We're doomed to face...

This song is about the starting, fighting of and subsequent events of the trojan war. Aside from the obvious references to Troy and one of the choruses speaking of an amazing culture being lost I have other evidence

For starters the song says "out of three you've chosen misery power and wisdom you deny" this is a reference to the starting of the Trojan war. You see in mythology the Trojan war was started like this: a party was thrown for beautiful goddesses but nemisis (goddes of revenge) was not invited. Jilted she threw a golden apple marked 'to the fairest' into the crowd. Athena, Aphrodite and Hera all claimed it must be for them. They couldn't decide amongst themselves so they called upon a young man named Paris to arbitrate. Each goddess tried to bribe Paris Athena with great wisdom Hera with control of Asia (power) and Aphrodite with a beautiful maiden. Paris chose the maiden but she was already betrothed to a king who was willing to fight for her so the couple fled and took refuge in Troy thus the lines "don't let him in don't let her in desire, lust, obsession death they'll bring." as a plea not to allow the couple in but alas no such plea was headed and the Trojan war began

Now near the end of the song hansi starts singing about the final and most famous event of the Trojan war: the Trojan horse. "they'll tear down the wall to bring it in the truly believe in the lie." because the Trojan horse was believed to be a gift of surender from the Greeks to the Trojans due to. They're inabilitey to breach troys great walls built by posidon himself. The latter line and the line "mare or stalion there's far more inside." reference the fact that the horse was faked and stored thousands of Greek soldiers lead by oddisius they emerged from the horse to slaughter the Trojans even if they took refuge in altars for which the gods punished oddisius (and subsequently high school students everywhere) with the events of the oddesey

Now for the post war when the survivors of Troy were forced to wander the world eventually finding a home in Italy which latter became Rome. Which informs the lines "the flame of Troy shall shine bright" and "revenge will be taken by Rome" because latter Rome did conquer Greece which could be seen as the ultimate revenge for Troy.

Aside from the direct textual evidence the length, dark nature and varied style of the song informs the meaning after all the Trojan war is considered one of the largest (and thus bloodiest and most complex) conflicts in mythology
