This song is about a teen boy who is dealing with a rough breakup from a girl he used to go with. When he sees her out with other guys he thinks of how much she will miss his love after the other guy is out of the picture. It this also about feeling alone, like most teens do after a break up. He is so alone not even his friends can help him.

I think it's about losing a girl and trying to get over her but he's pissed because he could see it coming. He decides it's all part of growing up.

It's basically just about the things in life that get you down. I think the writer realized how much it happens in life, and while he is growing up friends come and go.

It's over and yes it will happen again, once or twice (x 20!). Oh well, suck it up because it's part of growing up.

If anyone has seen the video of this song, it mainly describes the whole song...you're out with a bunch of your friends at the movies and then you see your ex g/f with another guy and mainly what goes through your mind is...were not g/f b/f anymore but we are still friends and what mark does is act all funny in front of her and her new b/f and now mark says "well I guess this is growing up" meaning this new guy really hates what I'm doing in front of them and acting wierd and silly...i should grow up now and act my age and forget about it all.

Mark actually wrote it in about 5 minutes in his car about an imaginary break up.

The song was written in 5 minutes, yet it has a meaning.
The song is about how a man is living in a town where all of his friends, and his ex girlfriend, used to live.
After many years, his friends come and go, and his girlfriend breaks up with him. He thinks its all a part of growing up.
This next part may be debatable.
He moves to the town his friends were, and he sees his girlfriend at the movies with a guy, and they pretend its okay. After the guy leaves, he also leaves, but doesn't come back.
The girl then looks for someone to tell, but "everybodys gone, and you've been here for too long, to face this on your own, well, I guess this is growing up."

The song is actually trying to say that a young man has been dumped by his girlfriend for her own reasons and he has trouble dealing with the breakup emotionally. He turns to his friends to discuss it and for their comfort, but eventually his friends move on or get tired of talking about it. Later he is still thinking about what happened to cause the break up. He then sees his ex-girlfriend at a movie with her new boyfriend and claims that when the new boyfriend breaks up with her she will want to get back together with him (starting couple) but by then he will have moved on and she will go through the same process as he did - going to a friend for comfort/they get tired of it and move on- and she will also have to deal with the situation alone.
