Blur: Park Life Meaning

Park Life Lyrics

Confidence is a preference
For the habitual voyeur of what is known as...
And morning soup can be avoided
If you take a route straight through what is known as...
John's got brewer's droop
He gets intimidated by the dirty pigeons
They love...

You fools! I am not british, I am not american, even I am not from an english-talking country, but I'm still able to read the song, to listen to it, and to notice the deep sarcasm and criticism of the song. Parklife's not about the simple things of life, and, altough is obvious that parklife isn't a generalisation about all the american society, still is a sarcastic critic about the americanisation of british society, and even could be about global society. Anyways, Blur rocks. Go fuck yourself.

You can take it personally if you want, but then you'd be a wanker.

Damon Alban himself explained that it was against the Americanisation of Britain, as explained. That is not necessarily a criticism of the US. It's about the influence that American culture has on the UK. When one culture influences another, only some parts will rub off on it. Damon sees it as a negative influence, replacing things he liked about the UK. That could actually be a bad reflection on the British - picking out the lazy, plastic aspects of American culture instead of taking something more positive from it.

This song does not say that all Americans live this way. It doesn't even imply that all Britons live this way. The video clip clearly shows a particular sort of British suburb. If it was an attack on the US, it would show an American suburb.

So to all the whingers - get over yourself.

Yeah dude! It can't be about America that's just a plain insult! I reckon it's about the way that people are missing out on the serenity of the simple things... It's a simple song that are the greats, like OASIS old songs (from Morning Glory). "I sometimes feed the pigeons too" "it gives me a huge sense of well being."

This is amazing! It's like a diary song... It's cute, the lyricist wants us to no about what makes him tick personally......by the way the lead bloke out of blur wanted to sing the whole song but fort it didn't sound rite so only did chorus... He employed a dude with the most cockniest voice(quite famous)...I think it was a good call!!! andy x

Right, because all Americans are lazy men in jogging suits sitting in a park feeding birds with nothing else to do.... I mean, I love Britain and stuff and, being American I love America too, but why do SO many people just have the wrong idea of Americans and they go out and insult them. THEM is 250 million people mind you. Peace m8.

This song is about the "Americanization" of England. Lazy men in jogging suits going to feed the birds and having nothing to do. "You should cut down on your Parklife mate, get some excercise"
