What does that song mean?

Songs about Small Towns

My, we all get sentimental about our homes, don't we? While the big, gleaming metropolis' like New York and San Francisco get pages of tribute, nobody thinks to write a song about Podunk, Nebraska, until one singer from there happens to get famous and comes back to give it its due. So until the rest of the small towns produce their own singer, you're stuck listening to songs about someplace else.

There's a lot to be said for living in smaller cities. They're quieter, cleaner, and have lower crime. You can think a complete thought without being interrupted by wailing sirens and honking horns. You can hear the crickets and see the stars at night. Younger people find it just a little less boring than being buried alive, but once you mature, you look for the place that's a nice balance between the hustle and bustle and being stranded out in the boonies.
