Coldplay: Yellow Meaning

Album cover for Yellow album cover

Song Released: 2000

Yellow Lyrics

Look at the stars,
Look how they shine for you,
And everything you do,
Yeah, they were all yellow.
I came along,
I wrote a song for you,
And all the things you do,
And it was called yellow.
So then I took my turn,
Oh what a thing to have...

    At one of his concerts he said that He couldn't think of what to name the song, so he looked a round and the first thing he saw was a YELLOW book... He said, "... In an alternate world it could've been called Playboy."

    For those that say it's about Gwyneth Paltrow - do your research. This was written and recorded long before he even met her. Gah.

    This song reminds me of Aspergers, I don't know why it just does remind me straight forward about Aspergers Syndrome.

    I think that the words are simple enough to have many intepretations. I would like image its God singing to us and how he loves us and sent his son to us. It makes me look up at the stars in wonder at what he has made. They look so simple being so far away but are of course unimaginable powerful. Awe inspiring.

    This song is about yellow fever allright...as in having a thing for asians, also known as yellow feva. Coldplay has an asian fetish and pays homage to this master race by singing a song called Yellow. It's really common to have an asian fetish. Guys are crazy about asian women! Why? Because their skin is so damn soft, hence the line "Your skiiiiin" And the line that says "Oh yeah your skin and bones"....hello, asians are all skinny. Have you ever met a skinny asian? They don't eat the crap that Americans do and have an average life span of 104 or something. A-Z-N's Rule! Yellow feva motherf*ckers!!

    This is a song about yellow fever alright.....as in having a thing for asians, also known as yellow feva. Coldplay probably lived out their asian fetish and dedicated a song to this master race. I mean, who doesn't have an asian fetish? White guys are like soooo into asians women. Why? Because their skin is so damn soft, hence the line "your skiiiiiin" And then the line "oh yeah you're skin and bones" hello...asians are skinny. Have you ever seen a fat asian? They don't eat crap like us Americans do and have an average life span of like 104 or something. This is definitely a song dedicated to the asians and anyone else who has yellow feva. A-Z-N's RULE motherf***ers!!!

    Its about this person telling another person that "many people love you, I love you, everything you do is so beautiful, but you are not taking care of yourself, so many people love you for who you are and what you do, look at them they are so happy. "
    the line in the song that says "and you are skin, oh yeah you are skin and bones, turn it to something beautiful" says that 'you are not taking care of yourself, and many people think you are beautiful, and if you believe you are beautiful, and show you are beautiful, then all the world can know.'
    the line "look at the stars, look how they shine for you" says that this perosn is loved by so many people, and they are happy to have that person in their life, and they don't want that person to go away.

    Well, everybody has their own interpretations, but the song wouldnt be called 'yellow' if it was only to make the whole thing rhyme. Those who have ever heard of jaundice will know that your skin turns yellow. It actually refers to a liver illment, and it makes you sick. I think that he wrote a song for a person suffering from a liver disfunction. It may sound funny, but it makes sense.

    Thanks

    From looking at other interpretations on the web, it seems like no one is really sure or has any facts on what this song is about. But I believe it is a love song. It could be any type of love, love between siblings, between parent and child, between friends, or between partners. I guess we’ll never know, but when I listen to yellow I can interpret it as a love song. The word ‘yellow’ doesn’t actually have a significant meaning. It is simply a word that was able to fit in with the song. The meaning of the word can be interpreted in any way that the listener chooses to.

    It was written before he got with gwyneth paltrow. If you'd rest the other posts, you'd know that.

    He's stated before that it was for his sick goddaughter, but honestly, the beauty of songs is that everyone can find themselves in them, in their own particular way.

    The lead singer wrote this for his girlfriend who is now his wife to show how much she means to him.

    Erm, skoobi686, have you not noticed that yellow was written before he got with gwyneth paltrow? And yellow is not a love song. It was written for his new born/pretty ill god daughter. It is a song of love, but not the romantic love your all thinking of.

    No, it's not about an anorexic person;

    the lyrics are

    'your skin, oh yeah your skin and bones turn into something beautiful'.

    So the skin and bones turn into something beautiful. This is a straightforward love song, to me it could have two interpretations;

    Love between a man and a woman, unconditional and wonderful, or

    love of God for people - he makes the stars shine for us, jumped across, bled himself dry... although Coldplay have never indicated this is a correct interpretation.

    Well, I personally think Chris Martin is a genius! and yes I am sure he wrote it about a girl! his wife Gwyneth Paltrow! she is blonde, yellow, blonde! see the resemblance?? oh and Paltrow has confessed to admitting yellow to be her favorite colour! Besides, it is sooo romantic to confess your love to a woman, and when he said bleed myself dry, he is reffering to I would die for your acceptance! he loves her and love has an effect on everyone, including pop-stars! This song was Chris Martin and Paltrows, nobody elses! YELLOW BLONDE

    What are you all like? You're taking YELLOW as a colour but I reckon it means scared/chicken YELLOW. Now next time you read it or hear it think of the song from the point of view of Jesus saying we are all yellow. HMMM got you thinking!
