Five Years Lyrics

Pushing thru the market square, so many mothers sighing
News had just come over, we had five years left to cry in
News guy wept and told us, earth was really dying
Cried so much his face was wet, then I knew he was not lying
I heard...

The song is about the end of the earth coming, obviously, in five years, and the aftermath of this knowledge. Bowie chose five years as the length of time in the song after a dream he had.

When Britain cleared all the loopholes of same sex marriage in 1971, Bowie was impacted. Not because this was wrong but during this time he was gay. (He was ethier hiding the fact he was gay when he got married or he was bi, were not really sure. But I still love him!) And by the lyrics you can tell how people reacted to it, and how he reacted to it. And it was simply 5 years until their could change this law. It took more than 5 years unforently. Great opening song to my favourite album!

Right now, if GeoEngineering is not stopped we have 5 years of life on this planet. The illuminati must be stopped.

We have five years of Jim Hendricks.
The whole album is about that.
