No one else more dedicated
I'm the weatherman
Well, hey kid
You got the right
But the choice to kill
No, Son of Sam
Will let you in to turn against

I'd like to believe it is connected to the Weathermen, the radical group formed in 1969, but that is unlikely.

These lyrics are difficult to interpret but I'm gonna take a stab at them.

From what I've read in interviews with the band about this song, I've learned that the message of the song is to be what you want to be - obtain your dreams. Knowing this, I assume that possibly the "weatherman" never told anybody that he ever wanted to be a weatherman. Stay with me now. So basically he never became a weatherman, despite there being "no one else more dedicated" to the job. Emily Armstrong, when she addresses the kid - "hey kid" - says that he has "the right but the choice to kill." he has the right to become whatever he wants, but he has to, as they say, kill the crowd in order to obtain his dream. Armstrong is saying that you should go for it and make yourself an icon because people are "addicted to the love of ourselves" and "no one else cares," in other words: people are to busy worrying about themselves to care about what somebody else wants, so you're going to have to go for the kill (figuratively) and make them care. There are pretentious thieves that are out there, determined to take your dream. This song is a plight against them and all things un-American.

This is my best guess based on as much research of this song and band as I could find...
