Hotel California Lyrics

On a dark desert highway
Cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas
Rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance
I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy, and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the...

This song is obviously about a whore house. The song starts out where he is cruisin down the road and he sees a whore house "with shimmering lights" and "she is standing in the door way." He checks in and the bell boy comes "I heard the mission bell." "this could be heaven or hell" he is thinking this could be a bad or a good experience. " she got the Mercedes bends
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friends" Are the whores with thier money and clients. "Some dance to remember, some dance to forget" Some dance to remember this glorious moment while at the same same time some are dancing to forget about their pain. "So I called up the Captain, 'Please bring me my wine' He said,'We haven't had that spirit here since nineteen sixty nine'" The captian of the hotel is telling him that they haven't had that spirit there since 1969, spirit I believe is refering to the type of wine he asked for or the "spirit" of asking for room service which has not exsisted there since 1969 when maybe it used to be a normal hotel. "Mirrors on the ceiling, The pink champagne on ice" things commonly found in whore houses. "'We are all just prisoners here, of our own device" the whores are all women who have allowed themselves to be trapped there. "And in the master's chambers" The pimp's room or office. "They gathered for the feast The stab it with their steely knives, But they just can't kill the beast" the feast when they all do thier drugs, probably heroin, the stab with their needles, the beast, the addiction that will never die. "You can checkout any time you like, but you can never leave" a lot of people believe that when you have sex with someone that you become a part them, at least in memory you do, so you can check out but you can't leave because you left a part of you there.
