I've never seen the video but my interpretation has always been that she died and he couldn't love her back to life and after reading all these other entries with details about the video it just reinforces my opinion but like some other people have said...music is for you interpret how YOU see it so if somebody thinks it's about a girl leaving a guy who's to tell them they're wrong?

I've never seen the video, but I feel like I have a different interpreation, because I feel like this is happening to me right now. He loves her so much but he feels that if she ever started loving him he couldn't love her back because they have been through to much.

no matter how much you love someone, things happen. he says that he can write a thousand letters, go down to the church and pray, and states that it wont change the way things are. it shows her being hit by a truck in the start of the video. this is saying that he can love her all he wants and do anything, but he cant love her back alive. it rewinds back to that very second she left, and shows that they are happy so its not a matter that shes leaving him and he doesnt love her, its that he loves her with everything he has, but she was taken from his life and he cant bring her back no matter how much he wishes he could.

I would agree with many here. I lost my wife in a car wreck in 05 and i can count the many times I called her cell phone not expecting a answer but to hear her voice on her voice mail.I also have a scrap book of letter and such that I wish I would have told here when I had the chance. This is a great song with great meaning. Ranks up there with Kenny chesneys who youd be today.

This song was written about the loss of a loved one...The phrase "I can't love you back" means he can't bring her back to life through the use of love...

I saw easton do a interview before I saw the video and he said the girl died , but I still think the the song is great ,sad also but thats what makes it so good

In the video, She is actually sitting at the red light and goes on green. The truck runs the red light and hits the car. It doesn't actually show it hitting her but its RIGHT there, there is no possible way it could get stoped. Then, the video goes back wards, it puts her back at the red light and driving BACKWARDS ( this is where people seem to be thinking its her running the red light).Everything goes in reverse until you see her get back home, walk backwards into the house until the last second they were together. They kiss, then she walks away and turns around to look at him, smiles and leaves...to later be hit by that truck and never return home.
I think that's just how they left things, they kissed and she left. I don't believe it really meant anything, just after the fact he wishes he would have done something to make it so she wasn't at the light when the truck came threw. Everyone who has lost a loved one in a car accident wonders the same thing. "Could I have done anything to prevent her form being there?"
I do agree with people when they say he is telling you to enjoy every little moment, because when she turns to look at him one more time, that's the last time he ever got to see her, so don't get so rapped up in life that you miss the small things because later those little memories may be all you have left! -

NO. Its saying that she is gone from his arms and maybe into another mans arms or death. He cant love her back into his arms. She means the world to him, and he either made a mistake to ruin the relationship, or yes, she did die. -
I think we can all take different interpretations, depending on the situation we're in... I take it similar to those who see it as the girl loving him, but he can't... I was dating a buy who was clinically depressed, who couldn't stay in the relationship because of it... I know he cared about me and loved me, but he couldn't 'love me back'... couldn't give me what I need, couldn't put into the relationship what I was.... That's how I take the song, and it kinda hits home to me with this interpretation :-(

You can't always interpret the meaning of a song by the video lol. It's a fairly simple song to understand. 1. It could be about losing the love of his life to death. 2. It could be about a breakup, he still loves the girl but will never have her back. Either way it's about loss and still holding on to the love for someone.

I agree with the poster above. He can't love her back, because she is not loving him, because she is dead. I tried to state that in an earier post, but on rereading it, it didn't seem as clear as I wanted. (It's the post with the "one star" I accidently pushed...I didn't want to "hate" my own post.
Others have said he just didn't love her, so he couldn't love her back, but the song tells how he has expressed it through song, letters, prayer etc. I don't believe a person would bother with all of that if they were not in love. -
In order to love someone back, they have to love you. So u can love them all day, with all your heart, but the hardest part...if they don't love you, you cant "love them back"

I interpret it as being about loving someone who just doesn't love you anymore. He mentions how much he loves her and how much they went through and how he can't do anything to bring her back, whether it's because she left for someone else or has just fallen out of love with him. The reason why he can't love her back is because she doesn't love him anymore. You can love someone but if that person doesn't love you, you can't return love back.

I agree with the person that thinks its the girl that is love with him. He loves her and cares for her, but he just doesn't love her to the same degree she loves him. Meaning he can't love her back. Its funny because I have never seen the video and this song came on in my car when I was with the boy I love. We aren't dating, he told me to listen to this song and turns it up. I think he was telling me the same thing through this song. That's the way I took it. Loving you may come easy, but he just can't love you exactly the same.
