   This song is essentially about a one night stand or a "first encounter". Without the coffee metaphores, this song could have been named "The Morning After". This song is like a color blind test, you either connect with it or fail to see the intense meaning of its purpose. If you "get it" and can relate to it, it is clearly the best written and played song ever! (And I'm a dude!)
   
   The references to cold coffee are relatable to how she makes him feel when he is in her presence. She makes him feel alive (I love the way she wakes me up). Her presence brings spontaneous feelings of excitement throughout his body (makes me shiver without warning). These are feelings you get when you meet someone special and are befinning to fall for that person. Likewise, he enjoys her company and she makes him feel special and inclusive (she makes me laugh like I'm in on the joke).
   
   The premise of the song is that he has awaken and is overwhelmed with emotion for this girl and the encounter that ensued (still drunk off last night's whiskey and coke).
   
   He wants the feeling of lying in bed with her to last. Whatever he had planed for the day no longer is important (the day is up and calling ...please go back to sleep).
   
   He also has a lot of questions because he does not know this girl - perhaps she is married (for goodness sake may my love not be enough). He wants a future with this girl (stay with me forever). As he lies in bed, he wishes for more time and is asking for another night together. (Stay with me for now) and (do you need a loving hand to help you fall alsleep tonight). This also begs the question, is there someone else in her life ? Is there a future? Who is this person I have fallen for? These are all questions he has as he awakes.
   
   In summary, he had a one night stand and he fell hard for this chick!
   It's a role reversal. This song kicks ass!

   ed describes her to be like 'cold coffee' which is bitter. so she is bitter in the morning.
   she is quite mean to him but he loves her like when he says 'tell me how to fall in love the way you want me to'
   she is also quite pushy to him and he doesn't understand what he has to do more to make her happy when he says 'will my love not be enough?'
   he is willing to do whatever she says because he loves her that much even though she is quite bitter in the morning.

   such a bitter sweat song. he loves this girl so much, and he feels things are going wrong. they're different, but he wants things to work out. 'tell me if im wrong,tell me if im right' hes confused what to do, how to approach her, he wants to be perfect for her. 'tell me how to fall in love the way you want me to' he doesnt know how she wants him to react, he wants to be perfect for her and make her love him..
   this song is perfect for how i feel!! so frustratin!!

   Cold coffee in the morning is not a bad thing. It just means that other things kept you busy. You perhaps became distracted. I think cold coffee is a reality of life that some of us accept. Other things are more important. I love the way you wake me up, and the coffee can wait.

   In the 1st and 2nd verse, he continuously describes there differences. and how she is slightly cold meaning like mean to him.
   The chorus describes how they're going to stay together anyway. and that ed will do whatever it takes to please her. He continues staying with her and trying to please her. but they just differ to much. and it seems like his love for her isn't enough, so he must change.

   reminds me a lot of my girlfriend and I. We're in a long distance relationship and its been so hard. She's so wonderful, literally the only thing that makes me so fulfilled and happy. Since I've moved away our lives diverged but I haven't loved her any less. At times we fight because I can't show her my love the same way I used to so I don't know if Im still making her as happy as she makes me. She needs lots of affection and I know I haven't done it all right but I promised her recently when it came to the breaking point that I was gonna stop drinking and neglecting her the way I was and deal with missing her in all the right ways. I think that's what this song is about, an awesome girl that deserves a better guy but the guys she with despretely loves her because shes just so positive to his life that hes willing to change to make her happy. Its all he wants everyday of his life- like I do.

   I really love this song, because the melody is so sweet and the letter is pretty cute.
   In cold coffee Ed relates a girl that, unlike everyone else, is totally active in the morning and likes to drink tea when wake up, but, even trought,he wants to love her with all his heart and the way that she wants and deserves.
